Premier League Predictions Gameweek 8 - Brian McClair On The Panel

Brian McClair's Premier League Picks

Throughout the season, Manchester United and Celtic legend Brian McClair will be giving his predictions for every Premier League game.

In four seasons at Celtic, McClair made 204 appearances in all competitions and scored 126 goals, securing the Scottish Premier League and Scottish FA Cup while finishing as top-scorer for the Hoops on four occasions.

His prolific goalscoring record quickly attracted the attention of clubs south of the border and in 1987, McClair became Alex Ferguson's first signing at Manchester United, going on to win four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the European Cup Winners' Cup in his 11 years at Old Trafford.

Tottenham Vs West Ham, Saturday, 12:30pm

Premier League football returns following the international break, and we begin with two sides with something to prove.

Tottenham will be desperate to demonstrate that their 3-2 collapse against Brighton was a one-off blip.

While Julen Lopetegui's West Ham United need to prove they can build on that 4-1 thrashing of Ipswich Town at the London Stadium.

Brian says: "The Hammers came from behind to win this fixture 2-1 last season, however, they've not won consecutive games at Spurs since 1966.

"It's the eighth time these times have met after an international break and Spurs are unbeaten with four wins and three draws in those games.

"For that reason I'm going to plump for a Spurs home win again."

Man Utd Vs Brentford, Saturday, 3pm

Manchester United sit 14th in the division with eight points from a possible 21 - four ahead of winless Ipswich Town after have league wins over Southampton and Fulham.

Only promoted Southampton have scored fewer than United's five league goals, but that record will need to change when Brentford visit Old Trafford on Saturday with only Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham having netted more than Brentford's 13 goals this season.

However, Brentford have the fifth worst defensive record this season (13 goals conceded) and are pointless in three away matches, so Thomas Frank's side may well be the perfect opponents for under-pressure Erik ten Hag.

Brian says: “United have won their last five home games against Brentford, with their last defeat coming back in 1937.

"Brentford have lost all three away games this season and haven't lost four-straight since the 1961/62 season, when they lost their first nine on the road.

"United haven't scored in their last three and haven't gone four without a goal since 1989 when I was in the team - although I don't think I was still playing as striker then!

Liverpool Vs Chelsea, Sunday, 4:30pm

Premier League leaders Liverpool host Chelsea in the biggest game of the weekend.

Arne Slot’s side ensured they went into this month’s international break top of the pile with a 1-0 victory away at Crystal Palace to maintain their almost perfect start to the season.

The Blues are up in fourth and haven’t lost since their opening day defeat to Manchester City, though were frustrated in their 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest before the international break.

Brian says: “Along with Liverpool, Chelsea have won all their away games this season, but they haven't won at Anfield in their last nine visits.

"Liverpool have lost only two of their last 19 games against Chelsea.

"With that in mind I'm going for another home win."

Brian McClair's Panel Pick 3: Liverpool 2-0 Chelsea - 9/1 with Betovo
