2028 US Presidential Election Odds: Vance Vs Obama Tipped For White House Duel

UK betting sites have moved fast to open their 2028 US election odds and believe JD Vance is the favourite ahead of Michelle Obama to succeed Donald Trump as president.

Trump secured a remarkable victory over Democrat candidate Kamala Harris in November’s presidential election race.

His return to the Oval Office coincided with Republicans taking control of the Senate, as the Dems relived the nightmare of 2016 when Hillary Clinton suffered a similar defeat.

There will be a lot of soul-searching in Democratic circles between now and the next US election but the odds already point to Obama as the likely candidate to take on Trump’s new vice president.

At one stage Vance looked like a massive gamble that wouldn’t pay off. Now, however, he is in pole position to continue the Trump style of populist politics beyond the president’s second term.

Vance now seems well placed to win the 2028 election, while there aren’t many names to choose from among potential Democrat candidates.

The size of the Republican party win, coupled with the shock among Democrats at the scale of their defeat, is significant.

The Dems may have made grounds in recent elections, including the midterms, but were not prepared to suffer such a heavy defeat.

Bookmakers made Trump the favourite on election night and were proved right.

They now reckon Vance – Trump’s VP for the next four years – is in pole position to maintain the Republican presence in the White House beyond 2028.

Of course, this race is far from being drawn up and there will likely be other names added to the list as we weave through Trump’s second term.

But for now betting apps reckon there are two frontrunners for president four years from now, and two other credible outsiders.

Here, we look at the top-four names and their 2028 US president election odds.

2028 US Election Odds: JD Vance

He was once a Trump critic, now he could become his next iteration. Vance has successfully pivoted to the MAGA right and is in the perfect place to deliver another victory in 2028.

He will be a far less obstructive vice president than Mike Pence was to Trump between 2016 and 2020, and will bang the MAGA drum loudly while in office.

Vance has already learned to keep his head down and let Trump have the spotlight. He’ll need to use this instinct to stay in the game for four long years, where his boss can famously turn on allies in an instant.

Vance is shrewd and bookmakers reckon he’s the best candidate for president in 2028 right now, at 7/2 with Betfred.

No-one is in a better position to succeed the 78-year-old.

2028 US Election Odds: Michelle Obama

Democrats have been crying out for Obama to enter frontline politics for years but America has twice refused to vote for a woman to be president. It’s hard to see how the country would back the wife of a former president who is disliked so much by the MAGA crowd.

Obama is a skilled politician who is the sort of progressive voice that the Dems will need if they are to convince voters that liberal politics is the right way forward.

However, running for president against the Trump machine – even if it’s not Trump she’s directly up against – is a mammoth challenge. There were suggestions she’d come to the table for the 2024 race. She’s probably relieved she didn’t.

At 6/1, political betting sites reckon Obama is the best-placed Democrat to win the election in 2028.

Whether she even opts to run remains to be seen.

2028 US Election Odds: Gavin Newsom

A potentially more credible choice for the Democrats is Governor of California Gavin Newsom.

The slick, charismatic politician was supposedly on a career path with a dead end. However, many believe he is now the person to “lead the resistance” against Trumpism.

After all, he is now one of the Democratic party’s top political heavyweights and is considered a more centrist figure, compared to the likes of Harris and her inner circle.

He has a strong fundraising base in California and his name is well known across the country. This sort of thing matters in an election where voters can sometimes simply tick the one box of the person they have heard of.

Newsom has two more years as California governor before he can begin to look at the presidency. At 7/1 the bookies think he’s a credible option.

2028 US Election Odds: Ron DeSantis

Burned by Trump during the Republican primaries and found to be an unpopular governor, Ron DeSantis’ career has earned a reprieve with a Republican in the Oval Office.

His status took quite a hit during the election campaign as he tried to “out-Trump” the main man. Now firmly humbled, DeSantis will see 2028 as a better route to ultimate power.

He, like Newsom, could ditch his state two years from now and start the groundwork for a presidential tilt.

This could be difficult. He lost plenty of political capital during the 2024 campaign and looked like a reactive Trump cheerleader more than anyone else.

But DeSantis is a smart enough politician to know that four years is enough time to position himself properly. He’ll have to take on Vance for the GOP nomination and the bookies think at 10/1 that he’s unlikely to succeed.

When Is The 2028 US Election?

The 2028 presidential election takes place on Tuesday, November 7, 2028. The election is almost certain to be another race between the Republican and Democrat parties.

Donald Trump will not be allowed to contest the 2028 US election due to him serving a second term as president. Instead, JD Vance and Ron DeSantis are frontrunners to succeed him on the GOP ticket.

As for the Dems, Michelle Obama and Gavin Newsom are the two big names that politics betting sites believe will go for the presidency.
