Championship Odds: Our Betting Guide To The End Of The 2022/23 Season
The Championship is as intriguing as ever and betting sites believe there is still plenty to play for in the second tier of English football.
Several sides are in the mix for promotion to the Premier League, either automatically or via the play-offs.
At the other end of the table, numerous teams are battling to finish above the dreaded dotted line.
With just eight games remaining for the majority of clubs in the division, we are now into the business end of the campaign. Let’s take a look at the latest Championship betting odds.
Burnley Almost There, As Teams Battle For Second Place
Burnley are pretty much home and dry in the race for top spot: with a 13-point lead at the summit of the standings, football betting sites are offering the Clarets at 1/160 to win the Championship.
Vincent Kompany has done a magnificent job at Turf Moor this term and it is almost guaranteed that Burnley will be playing Premier League football again come August.
Sheffield United still have work to do, however. At a price of 1/5, they are the odds-on favourites to join Burnley in the top two and achieve promotion.
Yet their advantage over Middlesbrough in third place stands at just three points, and while the Blades do have a game in hand on Michael Carrick’s men, their recent form has been patchy.
Boro, available at tempting odds at Evens with Bet365, certainly have some momentum behind them.
They have won eight of their last 10 matches (including a 3-1 triumph at Bramall Lane) and have amassed more points than any team in the Championship since the turn of the year.
Luton Town are not quite out of the race yet, although odds of 9/2 illustrate that they are outsiders for promotion.
Despite losing Nathan Jones to Southampton, the Hatters have continued to punch above their weight under the tutelage of Rob Edwards, whose side are six points behind Sheffield United ahead of a crunch clash with rivals Watford on Saturday.
Play-Off Race Hotting Up
Even if Luton do miss out on the top two - as looks likely - they will probably have another shot at promotion via the play-offs.
Edwards’ side are seven points clear of seventh-placed Norwich City, and they are showing no signs of tailing off after collecting 14 points from the last 18 on offer.
Millwall are also fancied to make the cut, even though they have just a three-point buffer in sixth spot.
A 1-0 home defeat by relegation candidates Huddersfield Town before the international break was a blow, but they are still listed at 4/6 with 888sport to finish in the top six.
Given they have one more point than Millwall and a game in hand on the Londoners, it might seem surprising that Blackburn are available at the longer price of 10/11.
But that is in large part because their underlying numbers are not very impressive: Rovers rank a lowly 18th for expected goals difference.
Norwich are 13/8 to secure a top-six berth. They have three points to make up but possess vast experience of chasing promotion from the second division, although a recent run of three games without a win is slight cause for concern.
West Bromwich Albion are still contenders at 6/4, while Coventry City (4/1) are knocking on the door - an achievement in itself given the Sky Blues were in the relegation zone at the end of October.
At 13/2, Watford will miss out unless they can become more consistent.
Drop Looms Over Six Clubs
Huddersfield Town are available at 1/3, as Neil Warnock attempts to pull off a great escape.
The Terriers are just three points behind Cardiff City, but they have a worse goal difference and have also played a game more than Warnock’s former club.
That is not to say the Bluebirds are out of trouble yet, though. Given a 14/5 chance of succumbing to the drop, Cardiff still have work to do despite winning three of their last six games.
Meanwhile Rotherham United’s (13/8) four-point lead is still too close for comfort, while Queens Park Rangers (7/2) are the worst-performing side in the Championship in 2023.
