Manchester City have spent this season without a recognised striker in the team, with Pep Guardiola operating with attacking midfielders and wingers - some of whom have often occupied a ‘false nine’ role.

Although, it hasn’t harmed their Premier League chances yet according to the best betting sites.

However, the Citizens have often been found wanting in front of goal and perhaps they’re ready to swoop for a world-class striker.

The future of Erling Haaland is certainly the subject of plenty of speculation as we get closer to the end of the current campaign, even if the Norwegian’s contract at Borussia Dortmund runs through until 2024.

It’s become evident that there’s a release clause of around £63m which would need to be triggered in order to capture his signature.

So we’ve decided to look at the future of a 21-year-old who seemingly has the world at his feet, with Man City hoping to fend off stiff competition from Spanish clubs Real Madrid and Barcelona, while Bayern Munich might also be in the hunt for a natural successor to Robert Lewandowski.

Man City Are In Pole Position To Sign Haaland

According to the latest reports, Erling Haaland and his agent are considering the various options on the table.

After all, the Leeds-born forward might be destined for greatness after exploding on to the scene for Red Bull Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund, although it’s imperative that he signs for the right club in order to enjoy a hugely successful playing career.

City are seemingly in the box seat at 1/5 on football betting sites to capture the striker’s signature and it wouldn’t be a huge problem to cover the release clause, nor would his significant wages and bonus be difficult to manage.

Guardiola failed in his pursuit of Harry Kane last summer, although perhaps the City manager prefers the prospect of Haaland lining up in sky blue next season. After all, this is a 21-year-old who is open to further progress, and he clearly has the potential to become the best player in the world.

Haaland is already an established Norwegian international and his goals record for club and country have been staggering, with City hoping that he can be the out-and-out centre forward that the team are lacking.

Indeed, the increased noise linking Haaland to Manchester City has seen his odds shorten when it comes to joining the north-west English club, with Guardiola able to point to the examples of Kevin de Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden as players that he has been able to transform at the club through his coaching.

Real Madrid Hoping To Sell The ‘Wow’ Factor To Haaland

Despite Real Madrid not necessarily being the kings of Europe right now, it doesn’t stop them being a highly attractive club for the world’s leading players.

Time and again, we have seen star talent such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard make a mega-money move to the Bernabeu, even if the deals haven’t always worked out for either party.

Nevertheless, Real are always keen to make a marquee signing and Unibet have them second favourites in the race to capture Erling Haaland’s signature. Like City, they can obviously sell Champions League football to the Norwegian and also the fact that they often go deep when it comes to competing in the European Cup.

With Karim Benzema not getting any younger and the whole team in need of a rebuild, they are likely to approach the forward with the pitch that a new outfit can be shaped around his striking prowess.

However, don’t forget the Spanish capital club having also been linked with a swoop for Kylian Mbappe which is yet to materialise.

Could A New-Look Barcelona Appeal To Haaland This Summer?

Xavi Hernandez

Barcelona (12/1) have gone from zero to hero in the space of a few months, with the Catalan side having exited the group stage of the Champions League during the season and looking unlikely to qualify for the same competition.

However, the arrival of Xavi has completely lifted the mood and the Barca legend will be targeting a 2022/23 title assault, along with a European Cup.

This is a club who have always held plenty of appeal for star players such as Thierry Henry, Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho, with Erling Haaland potentially a player who could join the attacking ranks and start establishing the sort of legacy that Lionel Messi created during the many years he spent at the Nou Camp.

Barcelona’s financial difficulties seem to be a thing of the past, so with the club on a steadier footing and potentially ready to make a massive statement by securing Haaland’s signature.

It would be a coup for Xavi whose status at the club certainly means they have plenty of pulling power right now.

Bayern Munich Unlikely To Keep Haaland In Germany

Julian Nagelsmann

Bayern Munich continue to be the dominant powerhouse in the German Bundesliga where they are racking up titles season after season.

However, there are several ageing players in the ranks including Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller. Manager Julian Nagelsmann has probably already started planning for life after the pair and that is where a striker like Haaland can come in.

Bayern - who can be found at 14/1 with Paddy Power - have already been on the receiving end of the Norwegian’s attacking play on several occasions after clashing with him and his Dortmund team domestically.

Maybe Nagelsmann would be keen to add a player who seems to have all the attributes to become a Ballon d’Or winner several times over.

PSG, Manchester United And Liverpool Are Big Outsiders

Paris Saint-Germain have captured the likes of Neymar and Lionel Messi in recent years, although it’s unlikely that the French side can secure Haaland’s signature according to Betfair.

It’s hard to see why the striker would want to play second fiddle to the superstars already in the PSG squad.

Manchester United are another club that like a money signing and recently brought Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, although Haaland will want to play Champions League football and also win silverware with his new club. Is that likely to be in the offing for the Red Devils right now?

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Haaland, but their transfer policy tends to be more conservative and the player’s demands are likely to be pretty ambitious for a club who tend to swoop for lesser-known targets at the time of purchase such as Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz.
