Liverpool’s odds of signing Porto winger Luis Diaz crashed in from 9/2 to 1/20 overnight following widespread reports the Premier League side are set to sign the Colombian.

Given the validity of the reports from The Athletic and BBC, most football betting sites have now suspended the market on his future, but the 1/20 price still available on Liverpool will only appeal to a minority of punters.

However, the large sway in favour of Liverpool has opened up inviting prices for other interested clubs, with Tottenham also pursuing Diaz. Spurs are currently 8/1 outsiders in the transfer betting, having once been 7/4 favourites.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Anfield is 25-year-old Diaz’s preferred destination as Jurgen Klopp looks to build for the future amid uncertainty around the futures of star forwards Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Diaz has scored 16 goals and registered six assists in 28 games for Porto this season, while he also caught the eye at last summer’s Copa America where he finished up joint-top goalscorer.

He is thought to have an €80million release clause but Liverpool look set to do business at around €60m, with €45m to be paid up front plus up to €15m in potential add-ons. Tottenham have previously had a bid of £38m (€45.5m) turned down.

According to online betting sites, other clubs linked with Diaz in the past have now been blown out of the water, with Manchester United (20/1), Paris Saint-Germain (20/1) and Arsenal (25/1) all rank outsiders for his signature as things stand.

Tottenham’s interest in Diaz is believed to have prompted Liverpool to make their move in the January window. Klopp had supposedly ear-marked the Porto star as a potential summer signing, but the club have been forced to act earlier amid Spurs’ very real interest.

However, the deal could yet fall through as Diaz is currently in Colombia on international duty, with Sky Sports claiming Liverpool have sent a team of employees to South America as they look to wrap up a medical and paperwork before Monday’s 11pm deadline.
