Netherlands and France meet in a blockbuster Group D clash at Euro 2024 on Friday evening (8pm, BBC 1). 

Both teams enjoyed winning starts to the competition as Netherlands came from behind to defeat Poland, while Les Bleus edged past Austria by a one-goal margin. 

France’s win did come at a cost for Kylian Mbappe, who suffered a broken nose. Les Bleus’ skipper could be a doubt for the contest, although he’s not expected to miss the rest of the competition with his ailment. 

The Oranje could be meeting France at the perfect time, even though they’ve lost seven out of their last eight against their rivals, including both matches in qualifying. 

UK betting sites still make France favourites at 6/4 despite the uncertainty regarding Mbappe’s fitness, with Netherlands a best-price 12/5 to spring a surprise.

Netherlands Vs France Prediction: Les Bleus Still To Prevail 

With or without Mbappe, the bookies are still confident that France will emerge with the three points from their Group D showdown in Leipzig.

Didier Deschamps’ men were not at their best even with Mbappe in the line-up against Austria. France struggled to break down a resolute line-up and were grateful to a Max Wober own goal to secure the three points.  

There will be more to come from Les Bleus and they remain co-favourites to win the competition with football betting sites, but Netherlands may feel that they’re catching them at a good time. 

The Oranje were hammered 4-0 by Deschamps’ side during qualifying in Paris before suffering a 2-1 reverse on home soil.  

Mbappe scored four goals against Netherlands in those matches and his absence could tilt the scales in Netherlands’ favour.

Having said that France can still call upon Olivier Giroud and Randal Kolo Muani to fill the void, while Antoine Griezmann can also shift further forward, highlighting their depth.  

Netherlands have quality of their own and Cody Gakpo looked dangerous in the final third. The Panel have taken all these factors into account and believe that the two sides look set to cancel each other out. 

At best, Mbappe will not be at 100%, and even when he was fit France looked rusty. Netherlands’ record against Les Bleus is not encouraging enough to back them to win. The Panel are backing a draw but are intrigued by the value of pairing it with both teams to score at 18/5.

Netherlands vs France Betting: Griezmann To The Fore 

Griezmann could be the man to step up if Mbappe is not ready to go. He played behind the Les Bleus skipper in the No. 10 role and could step forward, although if Mbappe is good to go or Giroud gets the call to replace the forward, Griezmann would remain in his current spot.  

The Atletico Madrid man put two efforts on goal in France’s win over Austria, but he could have more space to threaten against a Netherlands side that are likely to be more adventurous pushing forward.

Griezmann scored in the 4-0 rout of the Oranje in qualifying but was quieter in the reverse fixture on the road. France at their best will flow through the 33-year-old.  

Whether that will result in Griezmann taking on shots on goal himself or finding others is the question. The Panel are optimistic that Griezmann will test the keeper at least once in the game with odds of Evens available on betting apps.

Netherlands vs France Tips: Low Card Count? 

There were a combined 10 yellow cards in the two meetings between these sides in qualifying, with six in the first clash in France followed by four in Netherlands. 

Referees have tended to be on the lenient side so far in the competition, but Anthony Taylor could be an interesting official to watch in this one. He averaged 4.81 cards per game in the Premier League last season in his 27 assignments.

However, he was more lenient in the Champions League, brandishing an average of 3.6 cards per game in his five matches.  

Taylor is an experienced official and is familiar with most of the players on show due to his time in the Premier League and Champions League. The Panel are expecting quite a calm affair with under 3.5 total cards in the game at odds of 10/11 with William Hill.
