Next Blackburn Rovers Manager Odds: Eustace In Line For Rovers Role
Betting sites believe Jon Dahl Tomasson could become the next managerial casualty in the Football League.
His Blackburn side are winless in their last eight league matches, which has seen them slip down to 18th position.
Rovers have the worst form in the entire Championship based on the last 10 matches, winning one, drawing two, and losing the remaining seven.
They play hosts to 21st-placed Stoke this Saturday and defeat could spell the end for the Dane.
There is no doubt that talks will have taken place between members of the Blackburn board with regards to Tomasson’s future. But just how much more time will the 46-year-old be given to turn things around.
John Eustace and Paul Heckingbottom are the favourites with football betting sites to replace Tomasson in the dugout.
Eustace And Heckingbottom Lead The Market
John Eustace is the 4/6 favourite to take over at Ewood Park, having been away from management since leaving Birmingham City in October.
It is no secret that his sacking as Birmingham boss will go down as a huge blunder in the eyes of the Blues board, and he could prove to be an astute acquirement for the Rovers.
The 44-year-old was doing a fantastic job and has subsequently been linked with a plethora of Championship jobs in recent times.
Second favourite is former Sheffield United manager Heckingbottom, who is available at a price of 2/1.
After being relieved of his duties at the helm of the Blades, the 46-year-old could potentially take a step down into the second tier for his next role.
Duff And Rooney Could Return To Championship
Michael Duff (5/2) was in charge of Welsh side Swansea before a run of bad results saw him replaced by Notts County boss Luke Williams.
Prior to that, the Northern Irishman enjoyed successful tenures with Cheltenham, leading them to promotion from League Two, and Barnsley, where he guided them to a League One play-off final.
The former Burnley stalwart could cause controversy if appointed as the head of their local rivals. However, this wouldn't be unfamiliar territory for Blackburn fans, who previously witnessed Owen Coyle take charge after managing Burnley, Bolton Wanderers, and Wigan Athletic.
Wayne Rooney is 4/1 with new betting sites to take over Blackburn, which is a job that would be closer to home.
The former England captain was installed as Eustace’s successor at Birmingham, but after winning two of his 15 matches in charge he was sacked as Blues boss.
Former England Midfielders Not Out The Question
It looks likely that Frank Lampard (4/1) will have to take a job outside of the Premier League if he wants to return to management.
After taking over from Graham Potter last season, it is safe to say Lampard will not be in the running for the next Chelsea manager should Mauricio Pochettino leave his post.
Lampard did have success with Derby in the Championship though, leading them to a play-off final, which he may need to lean on if he wants to take over at Ewood Park.
Scott Parker is another manager who failed to step up when given a more prestigious job.
Parker is 6/1 to be named as Tomasson’s replacement, and he is a free agent after a lacklustre spell in charge of Club Brugge where he won just two of his 12 league games.
The former Tottenham midfielder has two Championship promotions under his belt with Fulham and Bournemouth, which could prove instrumental.
Carsley And Berg Given Slim Chance
All the talk surrounding Lee Carsley at present links him to the vacant Republic of Ireland manager position.
The 49-year-old is currently in charge of the England U21's side and if he does leave that position, he is 8/1 for his next venture to be with the Lancashire club.
Former Blackburn defender Henning Berg provides a sentimental option for Rovers fans at 10/1.
The Norwegian could be brought in on a short-term basis, but would have to be lured away from his current job as AIK manager.
Sherwood Or Hughes Could Save The Day
Tim Sherwood has not been in any dugout since leaving Aston Villa in 2015 and is a 14/1 shot for the Blackburn job according to betting apps.
The 55-year-old regularly appears as a pundit on an array of shows, and it looks like only his love for the club would be enough to entice him here.
The same could be said for Mark Hughes (16/1), who has had spells as both a player and manager with the Lancashire side.
Although, with the Welshman’s recent sacking at Bradford, it would raise eyebrows if he was given control of a side two divisions above.
