Next England Manager Odds: Thomas Tuchel Favourite To Take Three Lions Job
After the second international break of the season, Lee Carsley's hopes of becoming England's permanent manager took a major blow.
The caretaker manager's decision to start Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, Anthony Gordon, Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden against Greece backfired as the Three Lions were beaten 2-1 at Wembley.
Carsley went back to normal for their trip to Finland, which England won 3-1 thanks to goals from Jack Grealish, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Declan Rice.
Whether that result will keep Carsley in the job on a full-time basis remains to be seen, but the Greece damage will be referred to for a number of weeks to come.

During the commentary from the Greece game, former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon eluded to Pep Guardiola taking charge of the team, without actually saying it. Dixon said: "We all know what is going to happen."
He wouldn't be drawn on his comments, but it implied the current Manchester City manager would be the next permanent manager of England.
The leading betting sites continue to update their odds on who will lead the Three Lions into the next World Cup. We take a closer look at the leading candidates.
Next England Manager Odds
Tuchel Tops The Market After Initial Talks
Thomas Tuchel is the favourite to be named England's permanent manager after it was reported he has held talks with the Football Association about the role.
Tuchel is available after a disappointing spell as Bayern Munich manager last season, which saw the Bavarian club finish the campaign without a trophy for the first time in 12 years.
But he did lead Chelsea to Champions League glory in 2021. Tuchel is the 6/4 favourite on betting apps to be given the England job on a permanent basis.
Carsley's Odds Are Drifting After Greek Defeat
Before the Greece game, Carsley was applauded for his ambitious and attack-minded team selection, giving starts to a number of creative players.
After the loss, he was left to answer questions about the formation, explaining that he wanted to flood the midfield with creativity.
The interim manager said the team spent 20 minutes working on the line-up the previous day, but it didn't work out.
He guided the Three Lions to a 3-1 win at Finland in the Nations League, but he may not be given the chance to fix the damage left by the Greece loss.
Carsley is 4/1 to turn his interim role into a permanent one.
Magpies Boss Howe Still In The Mix
England's shock defeat to Greece has brought all the leading candidates closer to the top of the market.
Eddie Howe’s name remains in the mix for the England job, even though he has played down the speculation linking him to the job.
Newcastle will not want to lose their manager, who returned the club back to the Champions League for the first time in 20 years last season.
Howe was 12/1 following the Greek defeat, but he can now be backed at 8/1 on football betting sites.
Guardiola Biding His Time?
If Dixon's comments during the Greece game are correct, then the Football Association will be busy working behind the scenes on a deal attractive enough to encourage Guardiola to take the job.
Guardiola has won everything at Manchester City and sooner or later the time will come for him to move on. His contract at the Etihad expires at the end of the current season and he is unlikely to leave his position before then.
City were charged in February 2023 with breaching 115 Premier League regulations and a hearing against the club by the independent regulatory committee is currently under way.
If they are found guilty, it could result in City being relegated, although Guardiola's contract might already have come to an end by then.
However, because of the uncertainty surrounding City, Guardiola's odds of being England's next permanent manager are 8/1, shortened from 9/1 just after the Greece defeat.
Potter Is Still Available
Graham Potter has been near the top of the betting market to be England's next manager for the last few months.
Potter's last job was as Chelsea manager, but his tenure only lasted 31 games, during which time he won 12 times.
His dismissal undid some of the good work he did at Swansea and Brighton, which gave him the opportunity to manage the Stamford Bridge club.
If the Football Association wants Potter and the feeling is reciprocated, then it should be a straightforward process.
After 16 months out of work, Potter has gone from 14/1 to 8/1 to be named England's next permanent manager.
Lampard Odds Shorten After Greece Upset
Frank Lampard spent much of the Euros watching England in his role as a pundit for the BBC. Will it give him the urge to manage his country?
Like Southgate, Lampard would be another former Three Lions player to take control of the team.
Lampard's last managerial job was at his former club Chelsea, but it didn't go particularly well as the Blues won just one of his 11 games in charge at the end of the 2022/23 season.
However, the 46-year-old is qualified to manage his country, but it might be too early in his career right now. He was 25/1 after the Greece game to be his country's next manager, but his odds have now drifted to 40/1.
England Might Be Too Soon For McKenna
Kieran McKenna's reputation has been enhanced by leading Ipswich from League One to the Premier League in back-to-back seasons and he is 40/1 for the England job.
The Northern Irishman had been linked with the Manchester United job in the summer, but is still seeking his first win in charge of the Tractor Boys in their first season in the top flight since the 2001/02 campaign.
As well as he has done in the last couple of seasons, the odds suggest it's too soon for McKenna to be considered for the Three Lions role.
Holland Ready For Three Lions Return?
Few of the leading candidates to be England's next permanent manager will know the role better than Steve Holland.
Holland (66/1) was the right-hand man for Southgate during his tenure as the boss of the Three Lions. Holland has been out of the game since the Euro 2024 final defeat by Spain and now might be the time to return.
Carlo Ancelotti (66/1) is also in the mix to be England's next permanent manager.
