The Premier League resumes after the third international break with the usual suspects fighting it out for top spot.

At the opposite end of the table, Ipswich moved out of the relegation zone with a 2-1 victory at Tottenham for their first win of the season.

Southampton had picked up their first three points of the campaign in the previous week, but a 2-0 defeat at Wolves seven days later saw them slump to the foot of the table.

Football betting sites regularly update their Premier League relegation odds, so let’s take a look at the candidates in the running 11 games into the season.

Southampton In Major Danger

It’s been a tough return to the top flight for Southampton, who have picked up just four points from a possible 33.

Spirits were raised by a 1-0 win against Everton at the start of November, but worryingly they failed to generate a shot on target in that defeat at Molineux where they had an equaliser controversially chalked off for a foul.

Saints now have a horrid run of fixtures against Premier League leaders Liverpool, Brighton, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Tottenham and Fulham, so the prospect of being outside the bottom three heading into the new year is looking bleak.

Russell Martin is the narrow favourite to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job and his ailing side are 1/5 for the drop with UK bookmakers.

Ipswich Still Favourites To Go Down

First-half goals from Sam Szmodics and Liam Delap gave the Tractor Boys a shock win at Spurs before the international break which lifted them above Crystal Palace into 17th place in the table.

Manager Kieran McKenna described the victory as a “really significant landmark”, but they have another tough game this weekend.

Town get the honour of being the first team to face Manchester United under new head coach Ruben Amorim for what should be a thrilling encounter at Portman Road.

Two of their first three games in December are against relegation rivals Crystal Palace and Wolves, so they have a chance to pull away from the relegation zone.

That said, UK bookmakers don’t rate their chances of beating the drop, with BetVictor offering 4/6 on an immediate return to the Championship.

Leicester Also Odds-On For The Drop

The Foxes have made a better start than promoted rivals Southampton and Ipswich, but betting apps still fancy them to go down.

Leicester have taken seven points from their last five games and are handily placed in 15th, although they can be backed at 8/11 to be inside the bottom three at the end of the season.

City resume their campaign against their former manager Enzo Maresca this weekend with the visit of in-form Chelsea, so it should be a charged atmosphere at the King Power.

A trip to Brentford is followed by home games against West Ham and Brighton, but they conclude 2024 against Liverpool and Manchester City, so Steve Cooper will be keen to get more points on the board before those daunting matches.

Gloom Lifted At Molineux

Wolves, like Ipswich, earned their first win of the season before the international break which lifted them off the bottom of the table, but not out of the bottom three.

Gary O’Neil’s side had one of the toughest set of fixtures in the early part of the season, but the games before Christmas are potentially winnable.

Wolves next face in-form Fulham and Bournemouth before trips to Everton and West Ham are followed by clashes with relegation rivals Leicester and Ipswich.

Premier League relegation odds of 7/4 with betting sites may start to drift if they can pick up plenty of points before they face Manchester United on Boxing Day.

Everton And Palace In The Mix

Sean Dyche’s Everton side have lost just one of their last seven games, but are still only three points clear of the bottom three.

Three of their next four games are at home, although one of them is the Merseyside derby which comes three days after an arguably more crucial game against Wolves.

The Toffees may lack quality, but they continue to grind out results and are 5/2 with BetMGM to be playing second-tier football for the first time since the 1950s.

Crystal Palace are still feeling the effects of Michael Olise’s departure to Bayern Munich and without an adequate replacement look an interesting prospect at 9/2 in the Premier League relegation odds.

The Eagles are inside the bottom three ahead of a tough run of fixtures against Aston Villa, Newcastle, Manchester City, Brighton and Arsenal in their next six games.

The trip to Ipswich after the Magpies clash is starting to look an important one for Palace and manager Oliver Glasner.

Man City 12/1 To Be Relegated

It may surprise many to see champions Manchester City available at 12/1 to be relegated, but their fate lies in the hands of the Premier League rather than results on the pitch.

City’s formal hearing against 115 charges is expected to end in November, two months after it started, and a verdict is likely to be delivered next year.

Should they be found guilty, City could suffer a points deduction or even be thrown out of the Premier League as punishment.

Elsewhere, Brentford are 18/1 with Spreadex, while Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Fulham are 50/1, 66/1 and 100/1 respectively.
