Who Will Play Lord Sugar In A Biopic? Egerton And Jones Favourites
The latest Apprentice series concluded on Thursday night, with Lord Sugar investing £250,000 in the winner, gym owner Rachel Woolford, who was the underdog with Apprentice betting sites ahead of the final.
It was the 18th series of the BBC One business show, and Lord Sugar has already confirmed there will be a 19th, and openly admitted he would love to reach a 20th season of the programme.
In the last two decades, Lord Sugar has become best known for fronting the programme, but some of his earlier work included launching consumer electronics company Amstrad, which he founded aged 21, and he was previously the chairman of Tottenham Hotspur FC from 1991 to 2001.
Earlier this month, it was reported by The Sun newspaper that the entrepreneur extraordinaire had started work on a TV drama inspired by his own life story.
It's not yet known whether it will be a "straight biopic" about Lord Sugar's life, or a drama "inspired by real-life events", but it has led to betting sites speculating about who could play a younger version of Lord Sugar, as well as a current version of the businessman.
Taron Odds-On For Young Role
Taron Egerton is the 5/6 favourite to play a young version of Lord Sugar.
The Hollywood star has already been transformed into music legend Sir Elton John for the 2019 biopic Rocketman, and he looks most likely to play a youthful version of the businessman in a similar type of production.
Last year, Lord Sugar contacted screenwriter Noah Pink, who penned the script for 2023 movie Tetris, which starred Egerton and fellow British actor Toby Jones, about an “exciting movie project.”
He wrote on X: “Hi Noah I’m Lord Alan Sugar look me up on Google. I need to contact on a exciting movie project. Twitter DM service has gone due to technical problems. I can’t give contact details in this open forum. You can track me down via MGM Apprentice or the BBC. Love Tetris (sic)”
Game of Thrones stars Kit Harington (2/1), Richard Madden (4/1), and Alfie Allen (6/1) are also in the mix.
As well as being top actors, the trio sport curly mop haircuts, and Lord Sugar had a similar style during his younger years.
The Gentlemen actor Theo James is 5/2 to become Lord Sugar on the best betting apps.
James has become an in-demand star after his impressive turns in Divergent, The White Lotus, and in Guy Ritchie’s current Netflix hit, and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if he added a Lord Sugar biopic to that growing list.
Jones Favourite For Sugar Part
Should a Lord Sugar movie or feature-length drama come to fruition, then Egerton could be reunited with his Tetris co-star Jones in the project.
Jones is Evens on specials betting sites to take on the part of a more current version of Lord Sugar, while James’ The Gentlemen co-star Ray Winstone is 6/4 second favourite.
Winstone certainly has the London accent required to play Lord Sugar, and he is also expected to portray snooker ace Jimmy White in a movie about the prolific potter’s life.
Other stars who are in contention to play Lord Sugar include Eddie Marsan.
The Brit’s latest role sees him star as Mitch Winehouse - the father of late singer Amy Winehouse - in the biopic Back to Black, and he could no doubt turn his hand to playing Sugar on screen, too.
What’s more, Succession star Brian Cox is a 5/2 chance, while Rufus Sewell is 3/1 on UK betting sites.
Sewell can currently be seen portraying Prince Andrew in Netflix show Scoop, complete with numerous facial prosthetics.
He might want to hang on to some of them in case he lands the part of Lord Sugar.
Keeley Odds-On For Karren
On The Apprentice, Lord Sugar has been joined by several advisors over the years, who keep a close eye on the candidates during tasks.
Businesswoman Karren Brady has been in the role since series six, after she replaced Margaret Mountford, and there has been speculation about who could play her in Lord Sugar's biopic.
Like Sewell, Keeley Hawes is also currently appearing in Scoop, and she could be a perfect fit to portray Brady in a Lord Sugar production.
As well as his younger years, such a project would no doubt cover some of his Apprentice journey, and therefore feature Brady.
Hawes certainly has the credentials for the role after appearing in the likes of Line of Duty, The Bodyguard - opposite Madden - and Spooks.
Other stars who could be in with a shout include Sheridan Smith (7/4), who transformed into late national treasure Cilla Black for the ITV drama Cilla in 2014.
Former EastEnders star Kara Tointon is a 2/1 chance, while Sex Education and Scoop actress Gillian Anderson is 5/1 on new betting sites.
