Women's Olympic Football 2024: The Panel's Tips For Gold Medal Match
We have now reached the medal match at the Olympics women’s tournament after the semi-finals were held over the weekend.
For the second game in a row, the USA needed extra time to get past their opponents, this time Germany.
Sophia Smith’s 95th-minute goal sent Emma Hayes’ team through to the final, where they will face Brazil. The Selecao then sprang another surprise in the last four, beating the favourites and defending world champions Spain 4-2 in Marseille.
The USA and Brazil will battle it out for the gold medal in Paris on Saturday. On Friday, meanwhile, Spain and Germany will compete in Lyon for the bronze medal and a podium finish.
Gambling.com’s experts on The Panel have checked out the latest odds for the two upcoming games and picked out two tips for each of them.

Spain Vs Germany, Friday 2pm
As the reigning world champions after their triumph in Australia and New Zealand last summer, Spain were the favourites with betting sites to win gold before the semi-final stage.
That was in part because they were thought to have easier opponents than the USA, but Brazil confounded expectations by securing a 4-2 victory.
It was a hugely disappointing outcome for Spain, who only scored their second goal deep into second-half stoppage time.
Although there is a medal on the line, it may be harder for them to get themselves up for Friday’s match than Germany, who were underdogs against the USA.
Having said that, Spain are the superior side and if they play to their potential, they should run out winners here. La Roja will not want to go home empty-handed.
The Panel Tip 1: Spain To Win In 90 Minutes - QuinnBet - Evens
For the reason mentioned above, it could take Spain a while to get going in this match. They were understandably confident of reaching the final at a minimum, so the defeat by Brazil was a hammer blow.
It is also worth noting that Spain have been slow starters throughout the competition.
Of the nine goals they have scored at the Olympics this summer, only one has come before half-time. As for Germany, both of their matches in the knockout phase have been level at the interval.
We do expect Spain’s quality to shine through in the end at the Stade de Lyon. But they will not have everything their own way and they may have to wait until the second half until they pull clear of Germany.
Football betting sites are offering 17/4 on an even first half, with Spain taking the bronze after the break.

Brazil Vs USA, Saturday 4pm
The USA are within touching distance of their fifth gold medal at the Olympics. They have dominated women’s football for much of its history, but their status at the pinnacle of the game has been increasingly challenged lately.
Indeed, they only claimed bronze in Tokyo three years ago, while their last-16 exit at the World Cup last summer was their worst ever showing at that tournament.
Winning gold this summer would announce the USA’s return to the summit. But they have had to work hard over the last week, with Japan and Germany both forcing extra time before going down to 1-0 defeats.
Still, Hayes’ team are the clear favourites with new betting sites for Saturday’s showpiece event at the Parc des Princes.
Brazil only scraped through to the knockout stage in third place, but they have been brilliant since then.
Shock victories over both France (1-0) and Spain (4-2) sent them through to the gold medal match, but this could be one step too far for the Selecao, who lost their only appearance in the Olympic final in 2007.
The Panel Tip 3: USA To Beat Brazil In 90 Minutes - QuinnBet - Evens
The USA have found it difficult to break down both of their previous opponents, failing to find the back of the net in the first 90 minutes against both Japan and Germany.
Brazil will have studied those games and will aim to make life difficult for the USA as a first priority.
Indeed, if the favourites establish a lead within the first few minutes, Brazil’s chances of victory will instantly be minimised. The key for the Selecao will be to frustrate the USA, especially in the first half.
For the Americans, it would not be a disaster if there were no goals in the first half. They would back their quality to shine through eventually, so we should see a patient approach from Hayes’ women in the first 45 minutes.
If you have some free bets in your account, back 0-0 at half-time in the final.
The Panel Tip 4: Goalless First Half - BetMGM - 13/8
