Arizona Sports Betting November Numbers Pushes State High in Overall National Rankings
Arizona sports betting has quickly become a hit with residents.
Since Sept. 9, when the state officially went live with mobile sports betting, Arizona became the quickest state to reach $1 billion in handle, taking in more than $1.2 billion in just three months.
Arizona’s November Sports Betting Numbers Impressive
The Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) released the state’s November sports betting figures on Wednesday and announced the state recorded a monthly handle of $466.7 million, a 4% decrease from October’s $486.1 million. Arizona drew a $291.2 million handle in September, allowing the state to eclipse the $1.2 billion mark in sports betting handle.
“Arizona has exceeded expectations and is already a Top 10 market nationally,” Ted Vogt, Director, ADG, said in a media release. “Revenue from these new games is strong and will only get stronger as the market develops.”
Arizona’s online handle made up $459.3 million of the total handle, down 4.2% from October’s $479.3 million.
November sports betting revenue (adjusted gross event wagering receipts) in Arizona was $31.9 million, 208% more than October’s $10.4 million.
State tax from sports betting came to $3.2 million, an increase of 210.6% from October’s $1 million.
Top Arizona Sportsbooks
Arizona now has 12 sportsbooks available for bettors to utilize, with SuperBook Sports and Fubo Sportsbook going live in December and SaharaBets launching in January.
In November, it was the well-known brands who topped the sports betting handle charts with DraftKings Sportsbook leading the way at $148.7 million.
FanDuel Sportsbook was second at $113.3 million and was followed by BetMGM ($93.2 million), Caesars Sportsbook ($63.5 million) and Penn National’s Barstool Sportsbook ($17.8 million).
National November Numbers
With Arizona being the final state to report its November sports betting revenue report, we can see the national sports betting numbers for the month.
Across the country, states took in a total handle of $7.4 billion. The U.S. set a national monthly record for revenue with $634.9 million in total sports betting revenue, eclipsing the previous record of $514.8 million set in October.
Arizona Records Won’t Last Long
Don’t expect Arizona’s three-month sports betting handle record to last long. New York went live with its mobile sports betting market on Jan. 8 and nearly reached half of Arizona’s three-month handle total in just nine days.
The New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) announced on Friday its four active sportsbooks recorded an overall handle of $603 million in their first nine days. The state’s four sportsbooks during that span were Caesars Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook, BetRivers Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook.
Caesars New York recorded the highest handle of the operators, taking in $258 million in bets over the first nine days.
“We’re thrilled with the initial numbers reported by the New York State Gaming Commission [Friday] showing Caesars Sportsbook as No. 1 in market share among mobile sports betting operators in the Empire State,” Chris Holdren, co-president of Caesars Digital, said in a media release. “New Yorkers are one-of-a-kind in their passion for sports and their interest in mobile sports wagering has proven to be an unprecedented moment for this industry.
“As excited as we are, our work is just getting started to provide New York sports fans the best sports betting experience in the market and we’ve appreciated customer feedback as we’ve worked to improve their experience since launch. We know there is room to perfect our service offering in order to provide a product that exceeds expectations and we’re in New York for the long haul to do just that.”
FanDuel tallied $200.3 million in handle, while DraftKings had $134.4 million and BetRivers produced $10.6 million.
BetMGM went live on Jan. 17 but was not included in the report. PointsBet, WynnBET, Bally Bet and Resorts World are still awaiting approval from the NYSGC to launch their online sports betting products.
