Belmont Stakes 2023 Draw Results, Updated Betting Odds

A field of nine was entered for the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, including morning-line favorite Forte, who makes his first start since having to scratch from the Kentucky Derby last month.

The Belmont, run at 1 1/2-miles, is the third and longest leg of thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown for 3-year-olds. There will be no Triple Crown winner this year. National Treasure is attempting to become the first horse since Pillory in 1922 to win the Preakness and Belmont without having run in the Kentucky Derby.

Kentucky Derby winner Mage, who finished third in the Preakness, is not entered in the Belmont.

Forte Making His Triple Crown Races Debut

Forte, last year’s 2-year-old champion, was a controversial scratch the morning of the Kentucky Derby when a state veterinarian declared him unfit to race due to a foot bruise suffered earlier in the week. The Belmont will be Forte’s first race since winning the Florida Derby on April 1. He drew post six in Tuesday’s post position draw.

In addition to Forte (5-2), trainer Todd Pletcher has the second morning-line betting choice in Tapit Trice (3-1), who finished seventh in the Kentucky Derby. Pletcher has won the Belmont Stakes four times, including last year with Mo Donegal.

Trainer Brad Cox entered a trio of horses in the Belmont. Angel of Empire (third) and Hit Show (fifth) both ran in the Kentucky Derby. The Belmont is the first graded stakes attempt for Tapit Shoes.

National Treasure, who won the Preakness in gate-to-wire fashion, will attempt to stretch his speed an additional 5/16th of a mile. He drew post four and is trained by Bob Baffert, who has won the Belmont three times.

The Belmont is part of an outstanding stakes-filled card on Saturday at the New York track, which includes six Grade I races. The Belmont will be televised by Fox, with post time set for 6:50 p.m.
