This is more of a direct fade of the Panthers than anything. Carolina did absolutely nothing on offense in its first preseason game, losing 27-0 to the New York Giants in a game that saw Carolina's Bryce Young complete just 4 of 6 passes for 21 yards. Backup Matt Corral wasn't much better, completing 15 of 22 passes for 126 yards and threw one interception.

Carolina's issues weren't just with its quarterbacks; the offensive line wasn't much better either, allowing five sacks. There were also no running lanes for the backs to operate with the Panthers gaining just 52 yards on 15 attempts, averaging 3.5 yards per carry. There was just nothing the Panthers showed that would make us want to back them here. We will take the Giants -3 (-110) at BetMGM

The Giants could also see starting QB Daniel Jones play a drive or two. Coach Brian Daboll told reporters he didn't think Jones was at a point in his career where he didn't need to play in the preseason before Week 1 of the regular season. Still, Daboll wasn't ready to commit to Daboll playing against the Panthers.

"These decisions are made towards the end of the week,” Daboll said over Zoom on Saturday. “There’s a lot of research and communication that goes into it. I’d anticipate him playing at some point this preseason.”

Jones could play Friday since NFL teams use the second-to-last preseason game as the final tune-up for the starters. Typically, the starters do not see any action in the final preseason game as they prepare for the start of the regular season. If Jones plays, there's more value on taking the Giants spread.

⭐ Under 38.5 points (-110) at FanDuel

We've already discussed the ineptitude on offense the Panthers showed in their preseason debut. Carolina had just 199 yards, averaging just 4.1 yards per play and was a horrid 3 for 11 on third-down conversions and 0 for 2 on fourth-down conversions. The Panthers are still getting acclimated to new coach Frank Reich and his systems, and it showed.

New York's 16 points scored in the loss to the Detroit Lions isn't going to get anyone excited about the team's offensive prospects, but the total becomes even less impressive considering how they scored.

An interception set up the Giants' first points, and the team only went two yards before having to settle for a 47-yard field goal. The next field goal was also set up by a Lions turnover on downs, and the Giants went just eight yards before that play stalled out. New York's lone touchdown was a result of the defense recording an interception and getting possession on the Detroit 14. On the next play, Tommy DeVito threw a 14-yard touchdown pass. Those three New York scoring drives totaled 24 yards. The lack of offense for both teams has us looking at under 38.5 points (-110) at FanDuel

New York was also bad on third downs (2 for 13) and fourth downs (0 for 2). The Giants were sacked five times, and Tommy DeVito completed 15 of 24 passes for a touchdown and an interception. If Jones plays, he should give the Giants a boost on offense, but he will likely see limited action and not enough to impact the overall total.
