'Happy Gilmore 2' Odds: Travis Kelce New Favourite For Big Screen Scrimmage
Happy Gilmore fans were delighted earlier this year when Netflix gave the green light to a sequel, more than 28 years after the original hit the big screen.
Adam Sandler will reprise his role as the titular character. This unsuccessful ice hockey player discovers he has a talent for golf and competes in a tournament to raise money to save his grandmother's house.
Filming has now started on Happy Gilmore 2, and Sandler took to Instagram on Sept. 9 to share a picture of his character's Boston Bruins ice hockey shirt.

He wrote in the caption: "It ain’t over. The way I see it … we’ve only just begun."
With shooting underway, there has been lots of talk on betting sites about which stars might make cameos and whether any professional golfers will feature in the film.
The 1996 original starred Julie Bowen as Gilmore's love interest, Virginia Venit, and Christopher McDonald as antagonist golfer Shooter McGavin, both of whom have been confirmed as returning for the sequel.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, Netflix has confirmed that Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Martínez Ocasio, will appear in the movie. However, it's not yet clear what his role will be.
Kelce's Gilmore Grapple?
In the original, Gilmore has a fistfight with his celebrity golf partner, TV presenter Bob Barker at a pro-am event after McGavin hires a heckler to taunt him.
Sadly, The Price is Right host Barker will not be part of the sequel after he passed away last year at the age of 99.
But if there is another star-studded brawl in the follow-up film, then one celebrity who could be in contention is NFL star Travis Kelce.
Sandler recently appeared to confirm that the Kansas City Chiefs tight end—dating pop megastar Taylor Swift—will appear in the film in some form, telling The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon: "Travis mentioned it, so we have a nice something for Travis.
Celebrity To Fight Happy Odds
Celebrity | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Travis Kelce | -110 | 52.4% |
Jimmy Fallon | +150 | 40% |
Jimmy Kimmel | +200 | 33.3% |

"He’s gonna come by. He’s a very nice guy. You guys would love him in real life."
Kelce is -110 on specials sites to grapple with Gilmore in the movie, while Fallon is +150 to appear in the sequel.
Talk show host Fallon is no stranger to the film, after previously taking on Rory McIlroy in a Happy Gilmore putting challenge when the golfer was a guest on his The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2019.
Fellow chat show hosts Jimmy Kimmel (+200), Steve Harvey (+300) and Conan O'Brien (+400) will no doubt be in the conversation too. Former The Late Late Show presenter James Corden (+600) could provide some UK representation in the movie.
Tiger's Film Foray
In the original movie, Carl Weathers portrayed Gilmore's coach and mentor, Derick "Chubbs" Peterson, but the star passed away in February at the age of 76.
If movie bosses are looking for a professional golfer to appear in the sequel, then someone who could answer the call is Tiger Woods. He is still playing in pro golf tournaments, but Woods is in the latter stages of his career now.
Should he have an eye on swapping the fairway for the film screen, a cameo in Happy Gilmore 2 could be the perfect place to start.
Woods is -137 on betting apps to make a cameo in the forthcoming film. Netflix is certainly no stranger to golf-related projects.
The streaming giant's PGA Tour documentary Full Swing dropped its second season in March, and Netflix has already confirmed it will return for a third season in 2025.
Full Swing stars Scottie Scheffler (+200) and McIlroy (+250) could also be in the conversation for a part in Happy Gilmore 2.

Scottie Scheffler | +200 | 33.3% |

Dustin Johnson | +800 | 11.1% |
Justin Thomas | +900 | 10% |
Paige Spiranac | +1000 | 9.1% |
Pro golfer Will Zalatoris (+300) has drawn comparisons to Jared Van Snellenberg's character, Gilmore's caddie, at the Waterbury Open, with several on social media tipping him for a part in the sequel.
Pro women's golfer Paige Spiranac has also fuelled speculation she could be cast in the film.
The +1000 chance previously posted a picture on Instagram of herself in white lingerie while holding two beers, in an apparent nod to the movie's "Happy Place" scene, which featured Bowen as Venit.
Trump's Happy Cameo
Pro golfer Bryson DeChambeau might also be in contention. With McDonald confirmed to return for the second movie, this could pave the way for a pro golfer to play a younger version of no-nonsense ball striker McGavin.
DeChambeau could be in the conversation, and he is just +100 for a cameo in Happy Gilmore 2.
Former US President Donald Trump could also guest star in the motion picture.
Donald Trump Appearance Odds
Outcome | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Yes | -163 | 61.9% |
No | +163 | 38.1% |
Trump is a huge golf fan, and if he loses the upcoming US Presidential election in November, which he is currently second favorite to win behind Kamala Harris, he might have more time to make a cameo.
The entrepreneur's odds of appearing in the motion picture have been clipped to -163 from -150, while Trump's odds of sticking to politics and running businesses are +163.
