Kansas City Chiefs Reach Sports Betting Partnership with BetMGM
As sports betting in Kansas launched on Thursday, the Kansas City Chiefs announced its partnership with a gaming operator. BetMGM is now an official sponsor of the Chiefs, giving the team its first sponsorship deal with a gaming company.
"With a rich history and a passionate fan base, the Kansas City Chiefs are an ideal partner," said BetMGM Chief Revenue Officer Matt Prevost. "As we launch our sports betting platform in Kansas, we look forward to elevating the game day experience for Chiefs fans throughout the region."
Through the agreement, BetMGM signage will be present inside GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. BetMGM will also release content across the Chiefs’ digital channels, featuring unique offers, game day experiences and prizes available to fans and season ticket holders.
"As an industry leader in the space, we are excited to welcome BetMGM to Chiefs Kingdom,” Chiefs President Mark Donovan said in a media release. “We have invested significant time and energy advocating for sports wagering legislation and today's announcement is going to open the doors for our fans to add to their experience for the 2022 season and beyond."
BetMGM Kansas sportsbook was one of the operators approved to start taking bets today as Kansas’ new sports betting market officially opened today. Kansas is the 24th market where BetMGM has mobile and retail sports betting offerings. The BetMGM Sportsbook app is available on both iOS and Android devices, in addition to desktop computers. Of course, the irony of all of this is the Chiefs play in Missouri, where there is still not a legalized sports betting market.
Online Betting Launch in the State
Kansas’ soft launch for its new sports betting market officially went live today at noon local time. BetMGM, DraftKings, FanDuel and Caesars were some of the well-known brands who were able to start taking wagers right away.
The soft debut was set so the operators could detect any issues before the state’s full sports betting launch. Kansas’ full sports betting market is expected to go live on Sept. 8, the same day the Los Angeles Rams host the Buffalo Bills in the first regular season NFL game of the year.
“The Sept. 1 'soft launch' is just a way to give our casino partners and their platforms a chance to get up and running, start taking bets, etc. before the official start of the professional football season,” Cory Thone, public information officer of the Kansas Lottery, told BetKansas.com in an email. “Just adds some runway to make sure everything is safe, secure, and functional for our players.”
