Louisiana Online Gambling, Sports Betting Updates
Sports betting will no longer be the only legal form of Louisiana online gambling. Although it has been legal ever since Senate Bill 247 passed in June 2021, we’re finally ready for the launch of online sports betting in Louisiana.
Several Louisiana betting sites will go live Friday, so make sure to get in on the early action with some great offers.
When Will Online Sportsbooks in Louisiana Launch?
Some licensed LA betting apps were ready to launch in November 2021. However, they will no longer be waiting on approval from the Louisiana Gaming Control Board (LGCB), as the official launch date has now been confirmed for Jan. 28.
LGCB Chairman Ronnie Johns says that the board was working hard to get Louisiana sports betting going before the 2022 Super Bowl. He adds that casinos are still being considered for licensing at the current time.
With Super Bowl LVI happening on Feb. 13, though, sports bettors can get in on the early action and place their bets on the NFL Conference Finals happening this weekend.
Licensing was the main holdup for the launch, with the LGCB receiving and reviewing applications. The LA State Police, was performing background checks on key personnel behind prospective Louisiana sportsbooks.
Retail sportsbooks in Louisiana are currently offering betting on NFL and other markets. However, as of Friday, they will no longer be the only betting options until LA.
What to Expect when Online Sports Betting Goes Live in Louisiana
The online gambling market is officially here and some LA betting apps are getting the party started early with pre-registration bonuses.
The DraftKings Louisiana Sportsbook, for example, is giving out $100 in free bets. You just need to pre-register through a Gambling.com link to qualify. A few other LA online sportsbooks are also offering pre-registration deals.
Beyond the pre-launch offers, online Louisiana sportsbooks will feature big welcome bonuses. Caesars LA sportsbook, for instance, boasts a $300 no-deposit bonus and up to a $3,000 deposit bonus. You can qualify for the $300 no-deposit deal by signing up at Caesars with code “GAMBLENEW.”
Big four licensed Louisiana sports betting sites at the time of this writing include:
- FanDuel
- DraftKings
- Caesars
- BetMGM sportsbook Louisiana
The sports betting Louisiana market can offer up to 40 licenses total. Each commercial casino can run two LA online sportsbooks (a.k.a. “skins”). With 19 casinos currently in the state, the Louisiana sports betting market could feature up to 38 skins.
Will Louisiana Online Casinos and Poker Sites Be Legalized?
Internet sports betting in Louisiana is definitely set to launch on Friday, but the question if other types of LA online gambling is going to be legal as well?
Online casinos and poker rooms haven’t drawn much attention from politicians lately. The chief goal in 2021 was to debate and pass sports betting legislation for Louisiana. Casino gaming and poker are much further back on the agenda.
It’s likely that Louisiana online casinos and poker sites will become a reality down the line. For now, though, regulators are just worried about getting the internet betting market up and going.
