The Hawks meet the Bucks for the second time this season. Back in October, Atlanta upset Milwaukee 127-110 as a 6.5-point road underdog, and eight Hawks scored in double digits. Giannis Antetokounmpo led the way for the Bucks with 26 points on 9-for-14 shooting from the field in just 29 minutes on the floor, and we’ll begin our NBA picks today with the Greek Freak. 

The Bucks look to bounce back from Thursday’s 120-113 overtime defeat at the Chicago Bulls. Antetokounmpo had 26 points in 39 minutes on the court and stopped his three-game streak with 31-plus points. On the other side, the Hawks snapped a two-game skid last Thursday, outlasting the lowly San Antonio Spurs 137-135.  

Atlanta’s interior defense is one of the worst in the league in spite of Clint Capela’s presence. The Hawks are 26^th in the NBA in points allowed per 100 possessions (119.0), 29^th in opposing 2-point percentage (58.0%), and 27^th in defensive rebound percentage (72.4%). Atlanta closes down a five-game road trip tonight, and I’m expecting the fatigue to kick in.

The Mavericks lost to the lowly Memphis Grizzlies 108-94 last night. Luka Doncic didn’t play due to personal reasons and is questionable to take the floor when the Thunder come to town. Tim Hardaway Jr. (back) is listed as questionable, too, so the Mavericks’ backcourt might be pretty shorthanded for the second straight game. 

The Thunder are coming in full strength and off a 133-110 dismantling of the Los Angeles Lakers. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander dropped 33 points on Purple-and-Gold, going 11-for-18 from the field and 10-for-10 from the free-throw line, and we continue our NBA picks today with the Canadian superstar. 

Gilgeous-Alexander is doing a great job for the 12-6 Thunder, who occupy the third spot in the Western Conference. He’s tallying 30.6 points, 6.1 assists, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game while making 54.1% of his field goals and 94.5% of his free throws. 

The Mavericks are not a great defensive team and will struggle to contain Gilgeous-Alexander, who’s scored 33 or more points in three of his last six outings. Dallas meets OKC for the first time this season, and Gilgeous-Alexander tortured the Mavs in 2022-23, averaging 37.7 points through three contests. The slumping Pistons are on a 16-game losing streak. They were winless in November. Detroit’s ugly run of form will eventually come to an end, and we are targeting Cade Cunningham for our next NBA pick today. 

Cunningham doesn’t help on the defensive side of the ball a lot. But he’s the most talented scorer on the Pistons’ roster, and we are expecting him to have another solid game when his team hosts the Cavaliers, who allow 12.9 triples per 100 possessions (18^th in the NBA) on a 37.5 percentage clip (24^th). 

Over his last five outings, Cunningham has scored 26 or more points on four occasions while making 42.9% of his 3-pointers. Last Thursday, the Pistons lost 118-112 at the New York Knicks, and the No. 1 pick from the 2021 NBA Draft led the way for Detroit with 31 points on 12-for-20 shooting from the field (4-for-9 from deep). 

Bojan Bogdanovic (calf) will likely make his season debut tonight, but we are still adding Cade Cunnigham Over 22.5 Points (-110) at bet365 to our best NBA player props for Saturday. Cunningham will continue to drive the Pistons’ offense and should score more than 22 points against the Cavs.

Indiana and Miami lock horns for the second time in three days. Last Thursday, the Heat beat the Pacers 142-132 as 3.5-point home favorites to snap their three-game skid. Miami outscored Indiana 45-32 in the fourth quarter, making 15 of its final 17 shots from the field. 

We will round up our NBA picks today with Kyle Lowry, who had 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field last Thursday. Miami misses Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo due to injuries, and Lowry will have the ball in his hand a lot once more. 

The Pacers are one of the worst defensive units in the NBA. They rank 28^th in defensive efficiency (120.5 points allowed per 100 possessions) and are dead last in 2-pointers allowed per 100 possessions (63.4). In addition, Indiana is 28^th in opposing 3-point percentage (39.5%), and Lowry went 3-for-6 from downtown this past Thursday. 

Lowry, a six-time All-Star, has been playing well of late, averaging 16.6 points over his previous five appearances. He notched 21 points in Miami’s 131-124 defeat to the Milwaukee Bucks last Tuesday, so we are going with Kyle Lowry Over 11.5 Points (-120) at DraftKings tonight.
