Who Will Win 'MasterChef' 2023? Jennifer Is Pick Of The Bunch In Apple Mystery Box Week

Season 13 of "MasterChef" is back underway after a two-week break, and episode 6 was all about apples.

While some contestants lacked core cooking skills, others thrived during the "Apple Mystery Box" episode, with South cook Jennifer coming out on top and winning the Immunity Pin.

Jennifer was the toast of her teammates, as her exploits meant none of the South contestants had to go home, which was particularly good news for fellow South cook Kendal.

Judges Gordon Ramsay, Aaron Sanchez, and Joe Bastianich agreed as Richie was given the chop, after his apple cupcakes failed to rise.

Ramsay did get a lift from seeing the contestants' reactions at the beginning of the episode when he asked them to lift their mystery boxes on the count of three, and when they did so, apples fell everywhere in the studio.

After he won immunity on last week's State Fair Food challenge, Kyle was given the power to decide who made sweet or savory dishes.

He picked his own Midwest co-stars and the West contestants to cook savory, leaving the South and Northeast competitors to come up with some sweet dishes.

This season's "United Tastes of America" twist has seen contestants from four regions of the United States - Northeast, West, Midwest and South - take on one another over the first four episodes, with a Top 20 then formed.

Amanda became the first of the 20 to be eliminated after failing to impress with her fish tacos in episode 5, and Richie is the latest to succumb.

The season 13 winner will land a $250,000 prize and the title of "America's MasterChef," and with these hypothetical odds provided by industry sports betting experts, we've taken a deep dive into which remaining contestants have what it takes to triumph.

Jennifer Wins Immunity on MasterChef Episode 6

Jennifer won't have to cook in next week's episode 7 after she impressed the judges with her Apple Spice Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting and Caramel Drizzle.

The cook received some serious praise from Bastianich, who admitted her dish was "as good as it can be," while Ramsay praised its "perfect ratio."

Following her episode 6 exploits, Jennifer is now the +250 favorite to win this year's "MasterChef."

Kennedy isn't far behind at +300 after she displayed some "off the charts" presentation, according to Ramsay, with her Pork Tenderloin with Parsnip Puree, Apple Butter Gravy and Pickled Green Apple Salad. Bastianich pointed out it was well-balanced.

West cook Kennedy is now the second favorite alongside Midwest contestant Kyle, while Reagan is +350.

Nina (+350) and Wayne (+400) are also in contention to win the "MasterChef" title after they both performed well in episode 6.

Ramsay praised Wayne's "great performance" after he cooked up a dish of Scallops with Apple and Fennel Puree and Spiced Apple Cous Cous.

Bastianich told him: "The cous cous looks properly cooked, the puree looks smooth and velvety. I like the plating."

Meanwhile, Bastianich loved the "technique" of Nina's Apple Crumble with Oat and Pecan Topping and Maple Whipped Cream.

The pair is sandwiched in between +350 chance James in the futures betting, while Purvi is just behind at +400, level in price with Kolby, and Sav (+500), Brynn   (+550), and Ryan (+650) are also not too far behind.

Kendal Has Another Night To Forget on MasterChef Episode 6

But things didn't all go to plan in episode 6, as Kendal had another night to forget, after he failed to impress with his roasted chicken kebab in episode 5.

He was no doubt breathing a sigh of relief this week, after his fellow South star Jennifer effectively saved him from heading out of the exit door.

Kendal, now at the bottom of the market at +1100, disappointed the judges after accidentally putting salt on his churros rather than sugar, and Ramsay even admitted he would've been axed if it wasn't for Jennifer saving the South.

Richie was instead dumped from the show after his cupcakes failed to rise, because the Northeast contestant forgot to include baking powder in the mixture.

In the feedback, Bastianich told him: "These things have the density and the weight of a rock. It's a fossil."

Upon Richie's elimination, he owned his mistake, saying: "I know I messed up today, but I’m super proud of the things that I’ve done. This has been the craziest experience."

Charles And Lizzie's Fishy Problems on MasterChef

As well as Kendal, it wasn't a great episode for Charles and Lizzie.

Midwest cook Charles, who is now +750, gave it a good go with his Pan Seared Red Snapper with Apple and Potato Scales and White Wine Apple Sauce.

While he got the fish bit right, with Ramsay praising his fish as "cooked beautifully," he made a glaring error by not cooking the alcohol out of the wine.

Lizzie is narrowly behind Charles in the futures betting at +800.

She also went down the fish route with her Pan Seared Scallops with Apple and Celery Root Puree, Apple Salad and Apple Chutney.

But she got a dressing down from Ramsay for "cremating" her scallops.

Madame Donut is also at +800 to win this year's "MasterChef," followed by +1000 shots Grant and Sarah.

Next week will see the remaining 18 contestants, minus Immunity Pin winner Jennifer, compete in the "Trial by Fire: Field Challenge" episode.
