These are the teams in the College Football Playoffs for 2024:
To win the national championship, schools must first make the College Football Playoff (CFP), formerly the Bowl Championship Series (1998-2013). In 2024, the playoff has been expanded from 4 to 12 teams to mitigate the controversy surrounding which teams should qualify.
Under the new rules, a 13-member committee ranks the top 25 teams weekly. At the season's conclusion, the top five highest-ranking conference champions and the next seven highest-ranked teams automatically earn a playoff berth.
Regardless of record, the four highest-ranked conference champions earn the top four seeds in the playoff. These teams receive a first-round bye; the other eight compete in the first round, with the higher seed hosting the lower seed as determined by the committee’s rankings.
Another popular college football futures bet predicts the winner of the Heisman Trophy, awarded to the year’s most outstanding player. Other season-long awards are handed out in college football, but the Heisman is considered the most prestigious.

The Heisman Trophy is voted on by former winners, fans, and more than 800 sports writers. Each former winner gets one vote and fans can vote on the Heisman.com portal. However, the totality of the fan vote only counts for a single vote.
The media rank their top three players using a 3-2-1 point system, meaning three points goes to the top-ranked player and one point goes to the player the writer ranks third. After the votes are in, all the points are tabulated and the award goes to the player with the highest total.
