DraftKings WY - Up to $1,000 sign-up bonus (20% match) + $50 free bet

The DraftKings sportsbook has established itself as a leading online betting site. It currently serves more states than any other bookmaker. It offers Wyoming bettors a large 20% match bonus bets worth up to $1,000.

What we like about this operator: DraftKings does an excellent job of offering lucrative promotions, beginning with the sign-up offer. It covers a wide range of markets, including everything from popular to obscure sports. It's also the leader in daily fantasy sports contests if you're interested in DFS.

Where we think this operator can improve: The DraftKings WY bonus features heavy wagering requirements ($1 released for every $25 bet). This bookmaker also has limited customer support hours (6 a.m. to 12 a.m.).

BetMGM WY - $1,000 bonus bet

BetMGM has become one of the top online sports betting sites for multiple reasons. It offers a top-quality mobile app with endless streaming options and live betting selections. This bookmaker quickly took advantage of Wyoming's legal online sports betting by launching on Sept. 1, 2021—the first available day.

What we like about this operator: BetMGM's focus on its mobile app has really paid off. It gives you the ability to stream countless matches and choose from many in-play wagers. This betting site also boasts a large bonus bet worth up to $1,000. It provides the popular BetMGM rewards program too.

Where we think this operator can improve: Terms and conditions on the bonus bet are fairly difficult to understand. The BetMGM live chat option could also be easier to find.

Caesars Sportsbook Wyoming: Bonus Free Bet up to $1,500

Caesars Sportsbook has joined the Wyoming sports betting market. The brand has made its apps on iOS and Android accessible to Wyoming sports bettors.

What we like about this operator:

Caesars is one of the top sportsbook operators in the US. It boasts a powerful betting platform with extremely competitive odds. Its acquisition of William Hill, allowed the brand to move quickly into sports betting by offering a unique sports betting platform.

Where we think this operator can improve:

Caesars sportsbooks is an impressive sports betting platform. Finding that it's missing anything is more than challenging. If we can mention anything, it's adding a stats hub. Other than that, we can't really say that the platform is missing anything.

Bonuses and Promotions you can find at Legal WY Bookies

Sign-Up Bonuses

Wyoming sports betting currently offers two sign-up bonuses, including deals from the BetMGM and Draftkings sportsbook. The BetMGM offer is a bonus bet worth up to $1,000.

DraftKings, meanwhile, provides a 20% match on your first deposit worth up to $1,000. It sweetens the deal by delivering a $50 free bet as well.

Events Promotions

Wyoming sportsbooks are already doing a good job of offering promos for current events. They've kicked off the NFL season with a barrage of related promos, including multiple free bets, bonus wagers and NFL parlay boosts. They'll no doubt provide a solid number of promotions revolving around the Super Bowl and other major sporting events.

Special Promotions

Promos in the Wyoming sports betting market are subject to change at any time. However, the following deals indicate what kind of special promos are available.

Primetime Bankroll Builder (DraftKings)

You receive a $5,000 bonus bet when making a first-time deposit of at least $1,000. The bonus wager is only available for seven days after being awarded.

Free Bet for Referring a Friend (DraftKings)

This bonus is available when you refer a friend to the DraftKings sportsbook. It's worth up to $200 when your referred friend signs up and deposits. The size of the bonus varies based on the size of your buddy's deposit.

This promo calls on you to choose your favorite sports team. BetMGM will then customize your account section based on the given team.

Types of Bets Available at WY Sportsbooks:

Wyoming sports betting currently offers the following bet types:

In addition to these wagers, the Cowboy State will also offer exchange betting. Made popular in Europe, this type of sports wagering involves two bettors taking opposite sides of an outcome. One of the bettors essentially acts as the bookie by setting the outcome and odds.

How to Start Betting on Sports in WY in 3 Simple Steps

1. Create an account at the Sportsbook of your choice

Whether wagering at BetMGM or DraftKings, you should find registration to be rather simple. You begin this process by selecting the sign-up/join prompt on the relevant homepage.

Afterward, you'll need to fill out a registration form. This form will ask for basic information, such as your name, date of birth, home address, etc.

You'll also have to enter your Social Security number at this point. The Wyoming Gaming Commission requires sportsbook operators to obtain this info.

Provided you have a bonus code, you'll enter it during registration. Bonus codes identify the exact offers that you're seeking.

2. Deposit money into your account

You'll need to fund an account when ready to place bets. You must visit the given banking section to make a deposit.

All Wyoming betting sites offer plenty of banking methods for online gambling. You can fund an account using a debit card, credit card, e-wallet and more.

Upon selecting an option, you'll have to enter how much you'd like to deposit and confirm the amount. Some of the betting payment options provide instant funding (e.g. credit card), while others take a short while to deliver the money (e.g. crypto, e-wallet).

3. Place your first bet

You're ready to enjoy Wyoming sports betting once your account is funded. You can begin the betting process by choosing a market.

Each market will offer a wide variety of wagers along with listed odds. You can place one or more wagers, which will appear on your virtual betting slip.

Deposit and Withdrawal Options

The Wyoming betting market provides an adequate number of banking methods. That said, you shouldn't experience much trouble funding your account at WY bookmakers. Here's a closer look at the available deposit and withdrawal options along with their common limits.

  • Payment Method (logo) Name Deposit Amount Withdrawal Amount Withdraw Time
  • Visa Logo Visa $10 $20 48-72 hours
  • Mastercard Logo Mastercard $10 $20 48-72 hours
  • Play+ Card Logo Play+ Card $10 $20 48-72 hours
  • PayPal Logo PayPal $10 $20 24 hours
  • Skrill Logo Skrill $10 $20 24 hours

The Wyoming Gaming Commission made headlines for approving cryptocurrency betting deposits. No sportsbooks are currently taking advantage of this option yet. However, we wouldn't rule out one or more WY betting sites accepting crypto at a later date.

Current Sports Betting Situation in Wyoming

The sports betting bill (HB 133) in Wyoming currently allows online sports gambling. Given the small population of the Equality State, we don't see this aspect changing any time soon.

You must be within state borders to place bets. WY bookmakers use geolocation software to ensure that you're within the state's boundaries.

Tribal lands don't count as legal space for making sports wagers. The geolocation software may not always pick up when you're on a Wyoming reservation either. That said, you should avoid placing bets on tribal lands to stay above board.

The Wyoming Gaming Commission took a unique approach by allowing 18-year-olds to bet. By comparison, the legal gambling age for legal sports betting in most states, is 21 years and above.

Like other states, WY offers a program to promote responsible betting. However, the $300,000 that's allocated annually for this program doesn't seem like much. Regulators could potentially request more than this amount in the future—especially with 18-year-olds being able to bet.

Legal Sports Betting Options in Wyoming as of September 2021

Wyoming sports betting is available through online/mobile platforms. That said, you can place wagers through a smartphone, tablet, or computer.

No plans appear to be in the works for retail sportsbooks. This state isn't a great candidate for land-based venues due to its sparse population.

Legal and Illegal Sports to bet on

The following betting markets are legal in Wyoming:

  • Aussie rules
  • Auto racing
  • Baseball
  • Basketball
  • Boxing
  • College sports
  • Cricket
  • Esports
  • Golf
  • Hockey
  • Lacrosse
  • MMA
  • Rugby
  • Soccer
  • Tennis

Wyoming isn't too particular about which markets it allows. Even betting on college sports like NCAAF betting is on the table, which isn't always the case in other states. Fans of the Wyoming Cowboys will appreciate that college football betting is legal within the state.

Daily Fantasy Sports Betting

The Wyoming Gaming Commission has yet to weigh in on DFS. Until Wyoming's gaming commission makes a ruling one way or the other, DFS operators continue operating in this state. Industry leaders DraftKings and FanDuel serve Wyoming bettors.

Other Sportsbooks we expect to see launching soon

Multiple sports betting sites are exploring the Wyoming marketplace. The following bookmakers could potentially come to the Equality State in the near future.

Barstool

This bookmaker is a joint operation between Barstool Sports and Penn National Gaming. It has used the famed Barstool Sports brand to experience quick success in various states.

FanDuel

Like DraftKings, FanDuel shot to fame after pioneering daily fantasy sports. It has since made a smooth transition to sports betting and now operates in over a dozen states.

BetRivers

BetRivers is a brand that's owned by the Rush Street group. Rush Street is best known for its brick-and-mortar casino chain. It's also developing a reputation for sports betting more recently.

Mobile Sports Betting in Wyoming

Mobile sports gambling is currently the lifeblood of Wyoming's betting industry. It allows gamblers to conveniently place wagers from anywhere within the state.

The only exception includes tribal lands, which are not eligible for legal sports betting within Wyoming. The state's tribes can, however, offer their own online and/or land-based sportsbooks if they so choose.

Comparing the DraftKings Mobile App to the BetMGM Mobile App

DraftKings and BetMGM are currently the only two sports betting providers in Wyoming. Both bookmakers offer quality mobile apps. They also feature high-level encryption technology to protect your personal and financial information from outside parties.

As for usability, BetMGM sportsbook offers a cleaner app that focuses more on the markets. DraftKings, meanwhile, uses a more abstract layout that includes multiple promotional banners. You'll need more time to navigate around the DraftKings app as a result.

Again, both mobile apps are solid and offer great security. For usability purposes, though, we like what BetMGM brings to the table more.

Upcoming Sports Events to bet on:

Wyoming bettors can wager on many high-profile events throughout the year. Here are some of the notable events that are extremely popular for WY sports betting.

Super Bowl

Taking place in February, the Super Bowl is always the biggest annual sports betting event in America. Bookmakers roll out countless prop bets and live wagering opportunities for the NFL's championship game. After all, they stand to make considerable sports betting revenue from the Super Bowl.

College Football Playoff

The CFP sees four of college football's best teams compete in a playoff format. The final two schools play in the National Championship in early January. CFP organizers are currently discussing a 12-team format, which would greatly expand the number of betting opportunities.

World Series

Started in 1903, the World Series is a long-held tradition in America. Taking place in late October, it pits baseball's top two teams against each other in a best-of-seven series.

NBA Finals

The NBA Finals, which happens in June, features the same best-of-seven format as the World Series. It sees the Eastern Conference and Western Conference champions play against each other for the title.

Wyoming Professional and College Sports Teams

The Equality state isn't exactly a hotbed for pro and college sports teams. Its low population density and lack of major cities make developing a centralized fan base difficult.

Professional Sports Teams

No major professional sports franchises exist within Wyoming. The Grand Junction Rockies (baseball) is the only pro team currently operating in WY. The Cheyenne Stampede (hockey) stopped playing in 2019 after a lease dispute.

College Sports Teams

University of Wyoming Cowboys athletics have a strong following in the state. This school features Division 1 football and basketball teams.

The Cowboys have proven particularly popular among those who are into college football betting. After all, the Wyoming football team is highly competitive in the Mountain West Conference.

WY Sports Betting Partnerships

Due to its absence of professional sports franchises, Wyoming doesn't currently have any major partnerships regarding sports betting. However, it could very well see such partnerships thanks to the University of Wyoming.

The Cowboys' football and basketball teams likely present attractive partnership opportunities due to their Division 1 status. Wyoming's football team has especially been successful in recent years.

Of course, college sports betting partnerships between bookmakers and universities aren't incredibly common. Nevertheless, the University of Colorado broke ground in this department by signing a five-year advertising agreement with PointsBet Sportsbook worth $1.625 million.

WY Regulated Sportsbooks vs. Offshore Sportsbooks: Which is better?

As per the sports betting bill HB 133, the Equality State offers regulated online sportsbooks. These operators have gone through the licensing process with the Wyoming Gaming Commission and paid the necessary fees.

Given that these bookmakers are regulated by Wyoming's gaming commission, you can have more faith in them. Assuming a dispute arises between you and an operator, you can go through the proper channels to find a resolution.

Despite Wyoming's regulated market, some offshore sportsbooks continue serving this state. The “offshore” designation means that these bookmakers don't hold WY licensing.

Provided you have a dispute with an offshore operator, then you can't rely on an outside gaming authority to help. Instead, you're at the mercy of the unregulated betting site. That said, we recommend sticking with regulated options for safety purposes.

How does Sports Betting in Wyoming Compare to Other States where Sports Betting is Live?

The sports betting rules in Wyoming are comparable to those found in other states, like Colorado, Michigan, and Iowa. This isn't surprising when considering that WY lawmakers modeled their market based on the aforementioned states.

However, Wyoming did go a different direction in a few key areas when legalizing sports betting. The main ways that this market stands out form most other states include:

  • Anybody 18 years of age or older can place bets (versus 21+).
  • Only online sports betting is available (versus online and retail).
  • Sportsbooks can accept cryptocurrencies.

Timeline of events leading up to Sports Betting Legalization in Wyoming

  • Apr. 5, 2021 - Both houses approve House Bill 133 (HB 133), thus legalizing online sports betting in the state.
  • June 9, 2021 - The Wyoming Gaming Commission drafts sports betting rules and asks residents to provide feedback on the proposed rules.
  • July 15, 2021 - The gaming commission announces that BetMGM, DraftKings and FanDuel are heavily interested in applying for an online sportsbook license.
  • Aug. 2, 2021 - Via a virtual meeting, the gaming commission officially cements the market's sports betting rules.
  • Sept. 1, 2021 - DraftKings and BetMGM become the first legal sportsbooks to go live in Wyoming.

What's next for Sports Betting in Wyoming?

As mentioned before, this state has the smallest population in the US. We don't ever see Wyoming sports betting becoming truly massive in terms of revenue.

Nevertheless, the Cowboy State has a passionate sports fan base that seems willing to place bets. Multiple bookmakers are interested in entering the market and competing with existing operators. Therefore, we envision at least four mobile sportsbooks serving Wyoming bettors in the future.

The Wyoming Gaming Commission chose to exclude retail sportsbooks during the initial launch. This aspect likely won't change at any point in the near future.

Retail bookmakers have extensive costs when compared to their online counterparts. They need a larger population to truly become profitable. With 580k residents, Wyoming sports betting doesn't possess anywhere near the liquidity needed to support large-scale, land-based sportsbooks.

In the meantime, playing at Wyoming online casinos is also not permitted.
