ARC Cesarewitch Predictions: Greyhound Racing Betting Tips, Odds & Analysis
Saturday's Greyhound Racing Tips
- ARC Greyhound Cesarewitch - Garfiney Blaze 2pts win @ 9/4 with Unibet
- ARC Greyhound Cesarewitch - Mad For Sterling 1pt each-way @ 16/1 with bet365
The Arena Racing Company Greyhound Cesarewitch kicks off on Saturday evening at Central Park with four heats of the £12,500 to the winner Category One event down for decision.
Garfiney Blaze has been installed as the ante-post favourite with UK greyhound betting sites.
The former Irish-based and Graham Holland-trained runner will be having his first race for 14-times champion trainer Mark Wallis and comes into the event with excellent credentials.
He debuted at Kilkenny in Ireland in May last year and won his first race at the third time of asking when racing over four bends.
However, he proved a revelation when he switched to longer trips, and this 731-metre course should suit him perfectly.
Winning at Shelbourne Park in Dublin over 686 metres on his first start over six bends, he was put in at the deep end when entered for the always hotly contested Corn Cuchulainn at the same track.
Going unbeaten through the early rounds of the event, he went off joint-favourite to win the final but was squeezed out of things at the first bend and could never get back on terms after that.
A plan was then hatched to travel with Garfiney Blaze for a shot at the £20,000 Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger at Perry Barr in Birmingham in September.
Easy wins in the heats and semis saw him one of the favourites with greyhound betting sites for the final, but unfortunately for connections, he had to be withdrawn through illness.
His final six-bend race in Ireland was at the Winter Racing Festival at Shelbourne Park early in December. He signed off in style, taking one of the €10,000 prizes at the festival.
He moved to the UK shortly afterwards and has been prepared by Wallis with the Cesarewitch as his primary early-season target.
After a pleasing enough two-bend spin at Hove, Wallis wisely sent Garfiney Blaze for a couple of four-bend trials at Central Park.
He moved smoothly in both, returning highly respectable times, and should be spot-on for his new trainer when he goes in heat three of the Cesarewitch.
He races from trap one and should quickly be dominating the race, and a comfortable win looks to be on the cards.
Unibet makes Garfiney Blaze a 9/4 shot to lift the trophy in a couple of weeks. While that price may look a little cramped, he is a greyhound out of the top drawer, and it will take a considerable effort from his rivals to lower his colours.
Tip: ARC Greyhound Cesarewitch - Garfiney Blaze 2pts win @ 9/4 with Unibet
The each-way terms on offer for the Cesarewitch are attractive, with our featured betting apps offering a quarter of the odds for the first four in the final.
This makes Mad For Sterling of interest, and he is worth siding with at the 16/1 available with bet365.
He is a 10/1 chance elsewhere, which seems nearer the mark, and his odds will come tumbling down if he gets off to a winning start in heat two.
Finding the key with Mad For Sterling took a while, but moving him up to more testing trips seems to have unlocked his talent.
He has not been out of the top two in his last seven races and went within a whisker of landing a £10,000 650-metre final at Oxford just before Christmas.
He gives the impression that there is still better to come and that this more extended trip will be very much in his favour.
Although not the quickest in the early stages, few in the event will be going better in the closing stages of this competition.
Providing he can avoid the trouble spots, Mad For Sterling will be tough to keep out of the top three in the heats and semis, and a top-four finish in the final will be well within his capabilities.
He looks like a significant player and may well prove pointedly overpriced.
Tip 2: ARC Greyhound Cesarewitch - Mad For Sterling 1pt each-way @ 16/1 with bet365
Our ante-post selections are expected to take their respective qualifiers, while recent Crayford winner Bubbly Scorcher looks to be the best choice in the opening heat.
Ballymac Taylor, who is from the same litter as Garfiney Blaze, is likely to be all the rage in heat four, where he is expected to be given most to do by Jacktavern Magic.
