Blue Riband Predictions: Greyhound Racing Betting Tips, Odds & Analysis
On Sunday afternoon, the Category One Blue Riband over 500 metres at Towcester produced another stunning display from track record holder Romeo Command.
Our recommendation to win the event at 4/1, he has been cut to 2/1 with UK greyhound betting sites to lift the trophy on January 21.
Although not ideally drawn in trap one, he showed excellent speed into the turn and was never challenged when cruising home over nine lengths clear in comfortably the fastest time of the day.
Romeo Command is ideally drawn in trap three in the second semi-final on Sunday, and it will be no more than a formality if he runs up to the same form.
Savana Shay was the biggest mover in the betting market following the heats. A 66/1 shot before the event, the Diane Henry-trained runner produced a fine display in heat four and is now a best-priced 16/1.
The admirable Signet Goofy has long been one of the leading four-bend performers in training, and he notched up another win with an all-the-way success in heat three. A 12/1 shot before the event got underway, 8/1 is now the best available.
The ARC Cesarewitch heats at Central Park at the weekend went pretty much as expected, with ante-post favourite Garfiney Blaze getting off to a winning start in heat five.
Although not the quickest into his stride, the Mark Wallis-trained newcomer showed great acceleration to lead into the first bend.
He quickly pulled clear of his rivals from thereon and was never seriously challenged. His winning time was an excellent calculated 44.74 seconds, and he will prove very difficult to beat in the competition if he maintains that level of form.
Betting sites, however, appear not to have been overly impressed with Garfiney Blaze, who was one of our ante-post picks at 5/2 before the heats, still as big as 2/1 to win the event outright.
He is drawn in trap two in Saturday’s second semi-final, and if he shows a similar burst of early speed, he will prove exceptionally difficult to keep out of the final.
Our other ante-post selection, Mad For Sterling, ran with credit in his heat when beaten by Ela Maestro. Soon chasing the eventual winner along, he looked to have the race at his mercy as he closed quickly around the final two turns, but Ela Maestro dug deep and had enough in hand to hold on.
The winner's price to win the Cesarewitch has been slashed from 20/1 to 8/1 with betting apps as a result, while Mad For Sterling, who goes in the same semi-final as Garfiney Blaze, is now as short as 8/1 with Unibet from our recommended 16/1 price tag before the weekend.
Ballymac Taylor, who is from the same litter as Garfiney Blaze, produced a solid effort when winning his first-round heat. He has consolidated his prominent position in the ante-post market with 4/1 now the best price available.
Over at Oxford, the under-prescribed Category One British Greyhound Breeders Puppy Cup saw a clean sweep for trainer Kevin Hutton in all three heats with Union Blizzard, Dreamin Bea and Coppice Ella coming up trumps.
The first four in each heat qualified for Saturday morning’s semi-finals, and original 7/4 favourite Romeo Cypher is now out to 7/2. Keefill Maverick takes the mantle as the favourite and can be backed at 11/4.
