Dancing On Ice Odds: Show Skating On Thin Ice As Launch Night Ratings Are Down

Dancing On Ice returned for a 17th series on Sunday night and there have been plenty on movement on betting sites after just one episode.

Only six of the 11 celebrities took to the ice in episode one, with the remaining five due to perform this Sunday night.

Dame Sarah Storey was previously announced as part of the line-up, but she had to withdraw from the contest in December after fracturing her ankle in training.

Fans will have to wait until Sunday to see series 17's first celebrity elimination after nobody went out last weekend.

Hosts Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern have confirmed there will be no skate-off in episode two.

The first exit will come after the judges' scores and the public votes are added together - with the celebrity who has the lowest score being sent home.

Is Ice Axe Nearing?

While the celebrities will be looking to avoid low scores, show bosses might be hoping to avoid low ratings.

It comes after an average of 2.9 million watched Dancing on Ice's return on Saturday, compared to an average of 3.6 million who watched the launch episode last year.

Last Sunday night's episode attracted a peak audience of 3.1 million across ITV and streaming service ITVX while the episode was on, which is nearly one million less than the four million peak for 2024's opening.

The ITV skating show is now into just 1/2, from 8/13 to be axed later this year. It's 8/11 that the programme ends in 2026.

Even if the show survives for years to come, it could still lose head judges Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

Last year, the pair announced they will retire from ice skating in 2025 and they will bow out with a farewell tour.

In December, Dean remained coy when asked about the show's future, telling the Sunday Mirror newspaper: "By the end of the series we’ll know."

Torvill added: "It’s year by year..."

The ice-skating legends are now into 8/15 to quit the show following the current series and it's into 10/11 the pair depart next year.

Michaela Wows In Ice Debut

However, the 17th series is very much taking place, and six skaters are already off the mark.

Arguably the most impressive performer of last Sunday night was one of the ante-post outsiders - Michaela Strachan.

The TV presenter topped the leaderboard with an incredible 30.5 points out of 40 on the opening night.

As a result, Michaela is into just 3/1 to win the series from a massive 25/1 before the off.

Soap star Sam Aston also fared well, scoring 27 points, and he is into 9/2 with Unibet from a best price of 5/1 prior to the weekend.

The Traitors' Mollie Pearce is into 4/1 with Bet365 from 11/2, despite not skating yet, but TOWIE's Dan Edgar has gone in the opposite direction - out to 13/2 from 11/2 - as he awaits his ice debut on Sunday night.

Elsewhere, Hollyoaks star Chelsee Healey finished bottom of the leaderboard on 22 points, and she is on the drift as a result.

The star is 25/1 to win the 17th season from 10/1 last week, but she isn't at the bottom of the pile.

Steve's Short Stint?

While Sir Steve Redgrave is yet to skate, he finds himself at the top of the Next Elimination market.

The Olympic legend was the main outsider to win the series before Sunday night's premiere, and he has drifted further - before even putting a skate on the ice.

Steve is now 100/1 with Betfred to win this year's Dancing on Ice, from a best price of 33/1 prior to the weekend.

He is also 6/4 favourite on betting apps to be eliminated next, followed by 7/4 chance Josh Jones and 2/1 third favourite Chelsee.

As Storey's injury before the off has shown, learning moves for Dancing on Ice can be a treacherous business.

It's not uncommon for a pro ice skater or a celebrity contestant to pull out with an injury during the series.

Steve is the 2/1 favourite to be the next to do so in this year's series, followed by 5/2 chance Chelsee.
