The Wimbledon singles men’s final is almost upon us and the UK betting sites anticipate a close match on Sunday. 

Carlos Alcaraz beat Novak Djokovic in the showpiece event 12 months ago and those two players will meet again this weekend on Centre Court.

No one would rule the loser of Sunday’s first set out of contention, but both players will be keen to get off to a positive start and lay down a marker on Centre Court. 

That man may well be Alcaraz, who will look to put Djokovic on the back foot.

The Spaniard is an all-round talent who can beat opponents in many different ways.

For all that Djokovic is no longer quite at the peak of his powers, he retains an extraordinary ability to stay in matches and make life as difficult as possible for his adversary. 

Djokovic’s resilience means Alcaraz will have to work hard for every game on Sunday.

Moreover, on the two occasions this pair have met since the 2023 event, Djokovic has emerged triumphant.

The seven-time Wimbledon champion will hope his experience swings Sunday’s final in his favour, but he is the underdog with tennis betting sites.

Alcaraz’s victory over Djokovic in last year’s final was a huge moment. Then just 20 years old, the Spaniard became the third-youngest men’s singles champion at Wimbledon despite being thrashed 1-6 in the first set. 

“Making history that I did today, it’s the happiest moment of my life,” Alcaraz said back then. “I think it’s not going to change for a long time. 

"Beating Novak, winning Wimbledon Championship, is something that I dreamed about since I start playing tennis. That’s why it is the biggest moment of my life.”

Alcaraz can repeat the feat in this year's final. He has only improved since his victory 12 months ago, while he has also demonstrated an ability to win matches even when he is not performing at his highest level. 

Djokovic, on the other hand, is past his best - although he remains one of the best tennis players in the world. 

The Serbian recently had knee surgery and that could be a factor against a world-class opponent. Bear in mind, too, that Djokovic has had a relatively straightforward route to the final.
