After a number of fixture rearrangements due to FA Cup outcomes, many FPL managers decided to play their Wildcard for GW26 and are therefore set up well for Gameweek 27 where Brighton and Brentford are among the four teams that have two fixtures.

However, others decided to stick with their original team and Liverpool’s annihilation of Manchester United led to a bumper points haul for the likes of Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo.

The Reds ran riot and landed a highly improbable 7-0 victory, so much so that some betting sites weren’t even offering up odds on that scoreline. Those that did priced it up at 200/1

We now look ahead to GW27 and investigate the best double Gameweek options along with casting an eye a bit further down the line considering that GW28 sees a number of key teams having a blank Gameweek.

It often pays to take a longer-term view and have a strategy in place.

When is the Gameweek 27 Transfer Deadline?

The Fantasy Premier League deadline for this coming Gameweek is 11am on Saturday 27 March, shortly before Bournemouth and Liverpool clash in a lunchtime kick-off.

Which Teams Have the Best FPL Fixtures For GW27?

Let’s start with Brighton and Brentford. The duo clearly have the best FPL fixtures this week by virtue of playing two games.

The in-form Seagulls put four goals past West Ham and they travel to Leeds on Saturday before a “derby” clash against Crystal Palace on Wednesday. Certainly favourable games on paper.

Brentford head to Goodison Park and might be involved in a tight game with Everton before a trip to St Mary’s to clash with Southampton.

The Saints will have previously gone to Old Trafford before this game, while Crystal Palace host Manchester City before their game at the AMEX.

Which Teams Have a Blank Gameweek in GW28?

No less than six teams have a blank in Gameweek 28 and that includes Brighton. Therefore, if you’re loaded up with Seagulls players for GW27, you’ll have to find a storage solution before their double in Gameweekk 29.

We’ve also got the big three of Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United also blanking in 28.

Liverpool’s subsequent double in GW29 includes Man City and Chelsea away, so GW27 could be the final game where you want to have assets from the Merseyside club.

City have a blank in GW28 and then a home clash against Liverpool, while United are also in FA Cup action in GW28 before a trip to Newcastle and a home clash against Brentford. Fulham and West Ham are the other teams who won’t play this Gameweek.

Who Are The Best GW27 Players to Buy?

Defenders

Pervis Estupinan (£4.8m) is selling like hot cakes this week and the Brighton full-back has scored at least six points in his past six Gameweek. He seems like the pick of the Seagulls defenders and offers an attacking threat, with Joel Veltman (£4.6m) also a warm order, although others might want to save the other Brighton spots for midfielders.

Ben Mee (£5.1m) has recently risen in value and the Brentford man is nailed-on to play in both of the Bees’ matches in the double Gameweek, with Rico Henry (£4.5m) a cheaper alternative should you want a defender from this team.

Midfielders

While Estupinan is the best-selling FPL defender for Gameweek 27, his Brighton team-mate Kaoru Mitoma (£5.5m) is flying off the shelves.

The Japanese winger’s numbers have been excellent since he broke into the first team at the AMEX and he last week rewarded managers who bought him with a 13-point haul against West Ham. This is the player’s third double-figure haul in the past five GW’s.

On the subject of Brighton, you might do worse than Alexis Mac Allister (£5.4m) should you already have Mitoma.

The Argentine is on penalty kicks and converted from the spot against West Ham United, with a 14-point haul suggesting that he’s ripe for more points when clashing with Leeds and Crystal Palace.

While Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) and Cody Gakpo (£7.7m) are also flocking into teams, we would advise against signing Liverpool players if you don’t already have them. An away game at Bournemouth might be enticing, but they then have a blank GW before matches away to City and Chelsea.

Forwards

Over 300,000 Fantasy Premier League managers have signed Ivan Toney (£7.7m) for Gameweek 27 and it’s easy to make a case for the Brentford forward.

A double Gameweek where the Bees will be facing Everton and Southampton means that there’s a strong chance of a big points return for a player who won’t be getting an FA ban until next month at the earliest.

Brentford scored three goals against Fulham and some FPL players are also drafting in Bryan Mbuemo (£5.8m) in the hope that he can rack up some points, although it’s Darwin Nunez (£8.8m) who is proving more popular.

As mentioned, we can’t help but feel this is an over-reaction to Liverpool’s freak 7-0 win over Manchester United.

Who Are The Best GW27 Players to Sell?

Defenders

Luke Shaw had the proverbial nightmare at Anfield, although it seems odd for managers to be flogging a player who has a home match against former club Southampton this week.

Similarly, while Fabian Schar was absent from Newcastle United’s 2-0 defeat at Manchester City, the Swiss doesn’t look like an obvious sell on the basis that he’s recovered from concussion.

Midfielders

As FPL managers look to make space for double Gameweek players in their team, then some expensive assets are being sold and that includes Manchester City midfielders.

Riyad Mahrez was good while he lasted but the Algerian has played a sum total of 18 minutes across the past three GW’s and it’s little surprise to see him sold in droves.

Similarly, Kevin De Bruyne has been a frustrating player to have for the majority of the 2022/23 season and the Belgian seems to be prone to rotation as much as several of the other City players, with the club also competing hard in the Champions League at this stage of the season.

Patience is also being lost with Martin Odegaard, who doesn’t seem able to muscle in on the Arsenal points that are regularly up for grabs, while Miguel Almiron continues to be traded off as managers look to bulk up on Brighton midfielders.

Forwards

Eddie Nketiah has officially lost his place in the Arsenal first team due to Mikel Arteta’s preference for Leandro Trossard in a false nine position and it also appears that Gabriel Jesus is close to a return to the first team.

We’re surprised to see Harry Kane being flogged despite drawing a blank against Wolves, while Aleksandr Mitrovic is an easy sell ahead of a home clash against Arsenal.

We’re even seeing some FPL managers rolling the dice and getting rid of Erling Haaland ahead of the Norwegian blanking in Gameweek 28.

Who Should Be Captain For Gameweek 27?

Haaland still commands a ridiculously high ownership, although we’re not sold on making him captain for a clash at Selhurst Park, which might see the City forward used sparingly ahead of RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

Ivan Toney clashes with Everton and Southampton in GW27 but they are both away matches.

Perhaps Kaoru Mitoma or Alexis Mac Allister are better options considering that Brighton seem capable of scoring more goals and their trip to Leeds is followed by a home clash against Crystal Palace.
