15:20 Wolverhampton – Precision Storm – 1pt @ 13/2

Precision Storm can travel really nicely but it borders on over-racing on occasions and he didn’t settle when sent off as the favourite for an amateur riders’ race here eleven days ago. Being ridden by a fully-fledged jockey should see that corrected and there are four runners in the field who have led on their recent starts, so I’m hoping there won’t be any pace problems for him either.

Before that disappointment he had performed really well in two course handicaps, finishing second to Capital Theory (winner again since) and War In Heaven (completing a four-timer; not raced since). Those efforts make a mark of 84 look workable and although this trip is almost a furlong shorter, it shouldn’t be an issue as long as the pace pans out as predicted. I’d expect he’ll be back to form here.

18:00 Kempton – The Green Man – 1pt @ 7/2

The Green Man drops in grade following a run in a 0-95 over C&D a few weeks ago and he did all right there, but it was an odd race in which the front two built up a big advantage from an early stage and were not for catching. He kept on reasonably in the straight to suggest he’s still in form but never had a chance given how things panned out, along with being in a grade he doesn’t have to go near.

He looked to be coming right back to his best at Lingfield in January, flashing home late to grab second behind Rattling, and this track should suit better. Kaiya Fraser is an excellent up-and-coming rider and I think he’s the best one to have in this apprentice race, so there will be no excuses there. He can’t claim but is on the runner with the most scope from his rating and they should be hard to beat.

20:00 Kempton – Dubai Leader – 1pt @ 7/2

Dubai Leader bombed out when last seen, which of course was the day I had a good bet on him! However, he raced too keenly over the longest trip he had tackled and may have bounced on what was his third outing in as many weeks. He has been given a gelding operation since then, which will hopefully help him to settle down, and could still prove to be progressive as a 4-year-old.

The way he won his penultimate start over this C&D caught the eye. It was just his second go in a handicap, his first attempt at 1m 4f, and although the pack closed in a bit late, he looked hugely superior for much of the home straight. The handicapper only put him in at 4lbs higher and if he’s fit enough to do himself justice after the four months off, he’ll be a major player back at this trip.
