Sports Personality of the Year Award takes place on Tuesday night and betting sites have odds on all six contenders.

Three of the nominees are either Olympians or Paralympians, with football, darts and cricket making up the other sports.

Athletes have won SPOTY a record 18 times, 10 more than Formula One drivers, and middle-distance runner Keely Hodgkinson is the hot favourite to win the award next week.

Hodgkinson claimed silver on her Olympics debut in Tokyo three years ago, but went one better in France by storming to victory in the 800m final.

Gambling.com has looked at all the contenders to win the prestigious trophy in Salford on December 15.

Hodgkinson In The Running

Two-time world silver medallist Hodgkinson got her hands on Olympic gold after a dominant performance in the women’s 800m final.

The European champion saw off her rivals Tsige Duguma and Mary Moraa in a time of 1 minute 56.72 seconds to become the third British woman to win the title.

Hodgkinson, only the 10th British woman to win athletics gold at the Olympic Games, said: “I have worked really hard for the last year and I think you can see how much it meant to me when I crossed the line.”

She was 9/4 to win SPOTY with betting apps before her Olympic success, but those odds have since been cut to 2/7.

Littler Could Hit Bull's-Eye

Teenager Luke Littler became a global sensation in January when he reached the final of the PDC World Darts Championship, aged just 16.

The Warrington youngster lost 7-4 to Luke Humphries in the showpiece, but it was a remarkable achievement for a player ranked 164th in the world at the start of the tournament.

Littler, now 17, continued his incredible rise to fame by winning the PDC Premier League Darts title with an 11-7 victory over Humphries at the O2 Arena in May followed by success in the prestigious Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton last month.

The year also saw Littler post two televised nine-dart finishes and win 10 titles overall, so he is understandably 3/1 with Ladbrokes to get his hands on the SPOTY trophy.

Root Cooking On Gas

It has been another phenomenal year for England cricketer Joe Root, who has been breaking records left, right and centre.

The 33-year-old batter became England’s record Test run scorer in October with a career-best 262 against Pakistan.

In the same match, Root and fellow Yorkshireman Harry Brook set an England record partnership of 454 en route to an innings and 47-run victory.

Root surpassed Sir Alastair Cook’s record for the most Test centuries by an Englishman in August in the series against Sri Lanka.

This year Root also became the first Englishman to surpass 20,000 runs in all formats of the sport.

Star Sports has Root at a best-priced 70/1 to win Sports Personality of the Year.

Yee Fighting For Podium Spot

Alex Yee's gold-medal success in the triathlon at the summer Olympics was one of Britain's most thrilling and he is in contention to win Sports Personality of the Year.

Trailing Hayden Wilde going into the final lap, Yee found an extra gear to wear down the fatigued New Zealander and pinch gold to add to the silver he won in Tokyo.

The 26-year-old Londoner went on to add a bronze medal in the triathlon team event and in October he was crowned world champion despite finishing third in the Grand Final in Torremolinos.

Yee was 100/1 before the Olympics had started, but now that he has been nominated his odds have settled at 80/1.

Storey's Golden Journey Continues

Sarah Storey continued her remarkable haul of Paralympic medals with two more golds in Paris.

The 47-year-old swimmer-turned-cyclist now has 30 medals in total – 19 of which are gold – following her success in the C4-C5 road race and C5 road time trial.

Britain’s most successful Paralympian then won the same two events at the Road and Para-cycling World Championships for a 10th time to make it 39 world golds in total.

Elected President of Lancashire County Cricket Club in April, Storey is 150/1 with BoyleSports to land the most prestigious award in UK sport.

Bellingham A Big Outsider

Jude Bellingham enjoyed a brilliant 2024 although it could have been so much better had England beaten Spain in the European Championship final.

Instead, the 21-year-old midfielder had to be satisfied with winning the Champions League and La Liga with Real Madrid.

In 2024, Bellingham has scored 11 goals in the Spanish top flight and four for England – two of which came at the Euros.

Bellingham is 175/1 in the Sports Personality of the Year odds.
