Next Aberdeen Manager Odds: Who Will Take Over The Dons?
With Neil Warnock stepping down as Aberdeen manager, the best betting sites continue to offer a market on his potential successor.
The veteran Yorkshireman was handed control of the team until the end of the season and even recorded a 3-1 win in the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup, in what was his last game in charge.
However, Warnock picked up just two points from a possible 18 in the Scottish Premiership, and admitted that he was aware he would be in charge until a long-term suitor was found.
It was understood that chairman Dave Cormack was at an advanced stage of finding a long-term replacement and that is why Warnock has agreed to vacate his position, but the Dons are still yet to name his successor.
With that said, let's take a look at the list of potential suitors for the Pittodrie hot seat.
Thelin The Clear Favourite Followed By Lennon
Jimmy Thelin is now the 1/4 favourite with football betting sites to be the next Aberdeen manager.
The Swede is rumoured to have agreed a deal to take over at the start of the 2024/25 campaign.
Thelin is currently in charge of Swedish side Elfsborg, and his last game in charge is expected to be against IFK Goteborg on June 1.
Neil Lennon is the 3/1 second favourite to be the next man in the home dugout at Pittodrie.
The former Celtic boss has publicly expressed an interest in the role, saying recently: “Timing is important and the Aberdeen job is something that I would very much be interested in, no question - there is great potential there.”
Lennon has significant experience in Scottish football as a player and a manager.
His second spell at Celtic was less successful than his first, but he would still be a strong contender. Do not be surprised if Aberdeen reach out to Lennon soon.
O'Neill And Leven Could Be In Frame
Michael O'Neill is one of the biggest movers in the market; from an old price of 10/1, he is now the 4/1 third favourite.
The 54-year-old is currently at the helm of Northern Ireland, who will have a relatively quiet summer after failing to qualify for Euro 2024.
O'Neill will certainly have time to weigh up his options, but he seems to be among a three-man shortlist that is being talked about for this role.
Should Aberdeen wish to stick closer to home, Peter Leven is a 9/2 option on betting apps.
The Scotsman took over on an interim boss following Warnock's exit, and has picked up seven points from the four matches he has taken charge of since.
It is unknown whether Leven has thrown his name into the hat for the position, but if he continues to take the side on an upwards trajectory, then he cannot be ignored as a candidate.
McInnes And Fotheringham Are Contenders
Derek McInnes has now slipped down to fifth favourite for the role at a current price of 5/1.
He is doing some fine work this season with Kilmarnock, guiding them up to fourth place in Scotland's top flight.
McInnes has prior experience with Aberdeen, spending eight years between 2013 and 2021 with the club, but the question is whether he would be willing to return at this stage.
Mark Fotheringham is available at 6/1 with new betting sites to take on just his second job as a manager with Aberdeen.
The 40-year-old was in charge of Huddersfield Town in the 2022/23 season in his only prior head coaching role, but lasted less than five months in charge of the west Yorkshire club.
However, the former Celtic and Dundee midfielder has a detailed understanding of the Scottish Premiership and he may be utilised to steady the ship at Pittodrie.
Robinson And Neil Among The Outsiders For Job
Stephen Robinson (8/1) is doing a fantastic job at St Mirren this term.
His team have picked up seven points from a possible nine against Aberdeen this season and are in the mix for European qualification. St Mirren sit fifth at present and still well in with a chance of recording their highest finish since 1981.
No wonder, then, that Robinson is attracting attention from other Scottish sides, including a possible opening at Celtic.
Alex Neil is next on the list at 10/1. His last role at Stoke City did not go well, but the Scot has had success south of the border during his career.
The Airdrie-born tactician may feel ready to return to Scotland after almost a decade in the English game, but he is also linked with the Plymouth manager post.
