Next Bayern Munich Manager Odds: Alonso Favourite To Replace Tuchel
Bayern Munich have announced that Thomas Tuchel will leave his role at the end of the season and the best betting sites continue to operate a market on who the club’s next manager will be.
The Bavarians are currently 10 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen, who are top of the Bundesliga, with just eight matches to play.
Meaning, Thomas Tuchel's side realistically have just one trophy left to fight for this term in the form of the Champions League.
The German side have been drawn against Arsenal in the last eight and will have to do it tough if they want to progress into the semi-finals.
Regardless of the outcome, Tuchel’s contract, which was originally scheduled to end in June 2025, has now been mutually agreed to be terminated in June of this year.
The news broke after a discussion between CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and Tuchel took place, and the German is set to last just over 12 months in charge of the club.
Who will succeed Tuchel in Munich, whenever that may be? Let’s take a look at some of the names in the frame.
Alonso The Clear Favourite Ahead Of Mourinho
The Athletic are reporting that Bayern are weighing up a move for Xabi Alonso at the end of the campaign.
The Spaniard is doing a tremendous job at Bayer Leverkusen, who are still to taste defeat in any of their 26 Bundesliga matches this term, and are strong favourites for the title.
Alonso (6/4) is also a target for Liverpool, but Bayern will hope they have the edge given he is already living in Germany and would be joining the richest and most powerful club in their country.
Jose Mourinho is now the 9/1 second favourite with football betting sites to take over from Tuchel at the end of the season.
He has experience of handling big stars and is available without a fee after being sacked by Roma earlier in the 2023/24 campaign.
However, Mourinho is no longer an elite coach, and his divisive personality would probably not go down well with the powers that be in Bavaria.
Mourinho, put simply, does not feel like a Bayern manager. That, together with the fact his tactical methods are outdated at the highest level, means this wager does not look like great value.
Zidane And De Zerbi Likely To Be On Bayern’s Shortlist
Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is another 9/1 option.
The Frenchman won everything possible during his two tenures as Madrid boss, but the fact he has been out of a job for over 18 months suggests he is in no rush to return to management.
Roberto De Zerbi has done brilliantly at Brighton & Hove Albion, but has made no secret of his desire to manage at the highest level in the future.
Bayern would no doubt have the Italian on their radar as they consider their next move, with the news of Tuchel's scheduled departure. De Zerbi is available at 12/1.
Klopp And Conte Remain In The Mix
Jurgen Klopp will not be the Liverpool manager after this season.
He has already ruled himself out of another job in England, while also hinting that he is planning to take a year out to recharge his batteries.
Klopp is nevertheless available at odds of 14/1 with new betting sites to take over at Bayern, but this one looks like a long shot given his Borussia Dortmund sympathies.
Antonio Conte is 16/1 to succeed Tuchel at the helm of Bayern.
The Italian is a volatile figure and his abrasive attitude is probably not what the situation at the Allianz Arena requires at this current time.
Emery And Solskjaer Not Out Of The Question
Unai Emery is 16/1 to assume the position in the Bayern dugout following Tuchel's exit.
The Spaniard continues to do an excellent job in England with Aston Villa and has existing experience at top clubs such as Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (20/1) looked as though he may be taking over as the interim boss just a short while ago.
He is available as a free agent after leaving Manchester United in 2021 and could be used to steady the ship in what has been a tumultuous campaign.
Amorim Could Be Tempted But He And Flick Outsiders
Ruben Amorim (20/1) looks set to leave Sporting CP for a bigger job at some point.
He won the league title with the Lisbon side in 2021 and currently has his side top of Liga Portugal again with a game in hand.
Hansi Flick could easily return to the Allianz Arena on an interim basis.
A former treble winner at Bayern, he is not currently employed after being fired by Germany last year and Flick can be backed at 25/1 with betting apps.
