Next Norwich Manager Odds: Carlos Cuesta New Favourite

Norwich wasted little time in sacking David Wagner following their Championship play-off semi-final exit on Thursday night and betting sites are already speculating who will be their next manager.

The former Huddersfield boss was shown the door the day after the Canaries were thrashed 4-0 by Leeds at Elland Road which ensured they will be spending a third successive season in the second tier.

Whoever takes charge at Carrow Road will be tasked with a return to the Premier League, so let’s look at potential candidates to replace Wagner and their next Norwich manager odds.

Cuesta Heads Field To Fill Canaries Vacancy

Arsenal assistant Carlos Cuesta was linked with the Norwich job in February when there was speculation about Wagner’s future and football betting sites make the 28-year-old Spaniard the new 5/4 favourite to land the job at Norwich.

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta said at the time he would not stand in the way of his number two leaving the Emirates and now that an opening has arisen, it could be that the Canaries board make an approach.

Cuesta spent four years as an assistant at Atletico Madrid’s Under-17 team between 2014-18 and then had a couple of seasons in a similar role with Juventus before moving to north London.

Still In The Frame For City

Will Still recently left his position as Reims manager in the French top flight and was initially favourite for two managerial vacancies in the Championship – Norwich and Sunderland.

However, Still has since been replaced by Cuesta to fill the vacancy left by Wagner's departure.

The Belgian-born Englishman became the youngest manager in Europe’s top five leagues when at the age of 30 he took charge at the Stade Auguste Delaune from the sacked Oscar Garcia for the rest of the 2022-23 campaign.

Still engineered a remarkable 17-game unbeaten run in Ligue 1 from October to March in the same season, although they finished just outside the top half of the table after losing seven of their last 11 games.

Now 31, Still left Reims earlier this month and it is thought he would like a job in England which is why new betting sites make him the Evens favourite for the job.

Rosenior And Cooper In The Mix

Liam Rosenior was recently axed by Hull despite defying expectations by almost leading the club to the play-offs.

A difference of opinion over ‘football philosophy’ with club owner Acun Ilicali saw Rosenior leave the club after 18 months in charge, but that could be Norwich’s gain as they seek to get back to the top flight.

The Tigers finished seventh at the end of the campaign and although that would not be enough to satisfy Norwich’s joint-majority shareholders Delia Smith/Michael Wynn Jones and Norfolk FB Holdings, led by Milwaukee Brewers owner Mark Attanasio, his record at the Yorkshire club was impressive.

Rosenior is 8/1 to land the Canaries job and he could face competition from Steve Cooper, who is 12/1 with BetVictor to take charge.

Cooper is still looking for a job since being sacked by Nottingham Forest in December, but his reputation as a top coach remains intact after leading Forest back to the top flight following a 23-year absence.

David Moyes will be looking for work in the summer after West Ham owner David Sullivan announced that the Scot’s four-and-a-half-year reign at the club would come to an end.

An experienced Premier League manager with Everton, Manchester United and the Hammers, Moyes is priced at 16/1 with betting apps to return to the Championship following a spell in charge at Preston in his early managerial days.

Wayne Rooney’s spell at Birmingham did not go well and he was sacked after just 15 games in charge, but could he step away from the relaxed atmosphere of punditry and get back into management?

Paul Heckingbottom, who steered Sheffield United back to the Premier League last season only to be sacked in December, is available to back at 16/1.
