Premier League Predictions Gameweek 5 - Brian McClair On The Panel

Brian McClair's Premier League Picks

Throughout the season, Manchester United and Celtic legend Brian McClair will be giving his predictions for every Premier League game.

In four seasons at Celtic, McClair made 204 appearances in all competitions and scored 126 goals, securing the Scottish Premier League and Scottish FA Cup while finishing as top-scorer for the Hoops on four occasions.

His prolific goalscoring record quickly attracted the attention of clubs south of the border and in 1987, McClair became Alex Ferguson's first signing at Manchester United, going on to win four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the European Cup Winners' Cup in his 11 years at Old Trafford.

Brian joins The Panel this Premier League season 2024/25 and will pass expert judgement with his score predictions on all games whilst The Panel team will examine the best football betting sites to find the best odds should his predictions hit the back of the net.

Watch him discuss the games below and keep an eye each week to see how Brian and The Panel get on this season.

Liverpool Vs Bournemouth, Saturday, 3pm

It’s another Saturday 3pm home game for Liverpool as they host Bournemouth at Anfield, eager to put last week's disappointing defeat to Nottingham Forest behind them and UK betting sites have the Reds as hot favourites.

The Cherries have managed just three wins in their last 12 Premier League away games, with all victories coming against teams in the lower half of the table — Everton, Wolves, and Burnley.

In contrast, Liverpool have lost only two league matches at Anfield over the past two years and after last weekend's setback, they will be determined to remain on the tails of Manchester City and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table.

Brian says: “Only the most die hard of Forest fans would have predicted a victory at Anfield after 55 years last weekend.

"Liverpool had 14 shots on target in that game and how that those players with that ability didn't manage to score is beyond me.

“I can’t see them going consecutive games without scoring and that’s why I’m going for a Liverpool win.”

Brian McClair's Panel Pick 1: Liverpool 3-0 Bournemouth - 15/2 With Betfred

Crystal Palace Vs Man Utd, Saturday, 5.30pm

Manchester United showed significant improvement in their 3-0 victory over Southampton last weekend and now travel to the capital to face winless Crystal Palace.

Despite some mixed results, Erik ten Hag's side have been strong in attack recently, averaging 1.3 goals per game so far this season.

The Eagles have struggled defensively, conceding the first goal in five of their six matches and this is a fixture that often produces plenty of goals with the last meeting ended in a 4-0 defeat for United at Selhurst Park.

Brian says: “Palace won this fixture home and away last season scoring five and conceding none and the game at Selhurst Park was probably United’s worst performance of the season.

“The Eagles are without a win this season though, so I don’t think you can read too much into those results now.

“I think United had a little bit of fortune last week against Southampton with the home side missing a penalty, but I’m going for them to follow that victory with another away win here.”

Man City Vs Arsenal, Sunday, 4.30pm

Arsenal head north to face Manchester City on Sunday in what could already be a crucial clash in the title race.

The Gunners have not won at City since January 2015, with Pep Guardiola’s side claiming victory in eight of the last nine encounters between the two sides at this venue, the most recent of which ended in a 0-0 draw.

City remain unbeaten in regular play at the Etihad against any opponent since November 2022 (penalty shootouts aside), underscoring the significant challenge Arsenal face.

Brian says: “This is the biggest Premier League game of the weekend, if not this season so far, and it was always going to come down to either Arsenal or City to win the title last year.

“I suppose the big question is, can anybody stop Erling Haaland, who's now scored 72 Premier League goals in 70 Premier League games?

“Everything really points to a home win but I’m going to predict that the points are shared here, a result that will probably please both sides.”
