England fans might be losing faith in the European Championship coming home, but football betting sites are convinced the Three Lions are serious title contenders as they prepare to kick-off their campaign against Serbia on Sunday as co-favourites (8pm, BBC One).
Gareth Southgate’s men are jostling for top spot in the outright market with France, despite an underwhelming build-up to the tournament, which saw them lose their final warm-up game to Iceland.
Since the Iceland game, William Hill have reported receiving twice as many bets on England exiting Euro 2024 at the group stage as they have on them winning their first title since 1966.
The Panel haven’t lost faith though and are happy to get with England for their first game in Group C in Gelsenkirchen.
The Euro 2020 runners-up have a recent trend for beating the teams they are supposed to beat at tournaments, and Serbia, as 7/1 outsiders for this game, fits the bill. bettings apps
The Serbs possess plenty of talent but have struggled to put it all together on the pitch, resulting in a winless group stage exit from the 2022 World Cup and an unimpressive qualifying run to Euro 2024.
England need a win to restore a bit of belief and Serbia look a decent opponent for just such an occasion.
Serbia vs England Prediction: England Attack May Shine
England’s defeat to Iceland was a major surprise, but it could be just the wake-up call they needed going into these European Championships.
Getting that type of performance out of their system may prove the best thing that could have happened to Southgate’s side and one bad outing in a friendly is no reason to abandon ship.
England cruised through qualifying unbeaten with six wins out of eight and scoring close to three goals per game.
That qualifying run followed a World Cup campaign in which they scored 12 goals in five games, including a pair of emphatic group stage wins over Iran (6-2) and Wales (3-0).
Southgate may be reluctant to release the handbrake on an England team packed full of attacking talent, but they can still run up the score when the situation presents itself.
Southgate is spoilt for choice going forward and is expected to start Bukayo Saka, Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden behind Harry Kane, a quartet that have all enjoyed excellent domestic seasons.
That’s an awesome level of firepower that could prove too much for a leaky Serbia side that believes it can out-score opponents in most situations.
They tried that tactic in Qatar, where they drew 3-3 with Cameron and lost 3-2 to Switzerland, and again in qualifying with mixed results, and they have a role to play in what The Panel see as a high-scoring encounter.
Aleksandar Mitrovic was a regular scorer for Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia last season and was top scorer in qualifying, while the threat from the likes of Dusan Vlahovic, Luka Jovic and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic shouldn't be overlooked.
England’s big issue is in defence with seven of their last 10 opponents finding the net. They hope John Stones will be fit to play after illness but seasoned campaigners like Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire are out.
Serbia have similar defensive deficiencies, most notably at full-back, and don’t have the strength in depth to cover for any absences.
England should get the win and The Panel are pairing the Three Lions with over 2.5 goals, which pays 13/10 with BetVictor .

Saka To Silence Critics
Saka’s image was splashed across the back pages after the Iceland defeat but he could make headlines for the right reasons come Sunday.
He was one of England’s standout performers in qualifying, netting four goals, and heads to Germany having scored 20 times for Arsenal in all competitions.
Despite being a likely starter against Serbia, Saka is a bigger price than Cole Palmer and Jarrod Bowen to score any time at 29/10 on UK betting sites.
Those odds caught the eye of The Panel for a player who was England’s topscorer at the last major tournament, netting three times in Qatar.
Two of his goals came in England’s opening game against Iran and the Arsenal man can help the Three Lions get off on the right foot once more.
The Panel Tip 2: Bukayo Saka To Score Anytime – 29/10 With BetMGM
Value May Lie With Vlahovic
All eyes will be on Mitrovic when it comes to Serbia’s attack, but the Eagles have more than just the ex-Fulham forward to trouble England.
Juventus striker Vlahovic enjoyed a strong end to the Serie A season and while Serbia have previously gone with one up front, the 24-year-old may get the nod having started both warm up games.
He scored 18 goals for Juve in all competitions last season and had at least one shot on target in eight of his final 11 games for the Old Lady.
Vlahovic also scored three goals in three games in qualifying, averaging over two shots per game and may have some joy against a slightly makeshift England defence.
He's odds-against on most betting apps to have just one shot on target and The Panel are happy to take a chance on the in-form forward.
The Panel Tip 3: Dusan Vlahovic Over 0.5 Shots On Target – 27/20 With 10Bet
