Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters Odds: Emily Blunt And Jason Statham Targeted
Celebrities keen to face their fears and come up close and personal with sharks have a new, upcoming reality TV show to sign up for.
ITV recently commissioned the brilliantly-titled Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters, which will be swimming onto our screens next year.
In the programme, stars will be tasked with diving with a different species of shark, and the breeds will get bigger and more dangerous each time.
Celebs will also face fear-inducing challenges throughout the series, which is filmed in the waters surrounding the Bahamas island of Bimini, where hammerhead, tiger and bull sharks all reside.
Betting sites already have former Conservative MP Penny Mordaunt as a short price to take part in the series, and Karen Plumb - from show producers Plimsoll Productions - has admitted the programme is aiming for "high calibre" stars.
She is quoted by The Sun newspaper's TV Biz column as saying: "We’re looking at six or seven celebs. We’re lucky because we can cast a high calibre because people want to take part in something with a purpose. It’s a chance of a lifetime!
"These people are going to be diving with the most incredible sharks, with the best dive team and best natural history team."
But who fancies it?
Blunt To Face Shark Fears?
With ITV bosses in search of A-listers, Emily Blunt and Jason Statham have emerged as potential Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters contestants.
Blunt has previously had a shark encounter alongside her husband John Krasinski.
The couple were scuba diving 100ft deep in the ocean on honeymoon when a shark started to "charge" at Emily, who hadn't realised.
Krasinski decided against telling his wife and the shark swam past her, which resulted in the Devil Wears Prada star nearly "passing out underwater".

Speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Krasinski said: "Emily never wanted to learn scuba diving and I was like, ‘We’ll never get into trouble with sharks.'
"All of a sudden one broke off from the circle and started swimming behind us. I saw it and Emily didn’t. He started to charge [at] Emily, so my decision was, ‘If I spook her and she moves a lot, he might bite her’."
He added: "All of her air just went to the top. It was pretty scary."
Statham is no stranger to battling sharks - but in a fictional role as rescue diver Jonas Taylor in 2018 sci-fi action movie The Meg.
In the motion picture, his character encounters a 75-foot-long megalodon, an extinct species of giant shark.
Statham went diving with bull sharks to prepare, but if he is after a taste of the real action again, then this could be the show for him.
Blunt is 8/11 on specials betting sites to face her shark fears for the upcoming reality TV programme, while Statham is 13/8.
Hayden In Contention
Like Blunt, singer and actress Hayden Panettiere has also had a near-miss with a shark while scuba diving.
The terrified star has recalled an incident where a shark was behind her and she did the worst thing possible - to swim for her life, and splash around a lot.
She said on Jimmy Kimmel Live: "This safety diver got in to take pictures of my brother and my mom, and they had their fins on. And when the shark comes too close, you put your fins in their face, and I didn’t have my fins on.
"And, all of a sudden, they start going, ‘Shark, right behind you.' I swam for my life...They were yelling at us because the worst thing to do is to swim away from the shark and make all the splashing.
"I was like, ‘Guys, you yelled shark... How else do people react?’ I practically walked on water back to the boat."
Panettiere is 9/4 on betting apps to join the cast of Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters, and it would be an impressive signing.
Mordaunt is the current 8/13 favourite to join the cast, while fellow politicians Matt Hancock (2/1) and Nigel Farage (3/1) could also be in contention.
Daley To Dive Into Shark Show
One star who is no stranger to the water and who also knows Mordaunt is former Olympic diver Tom Daley.
Daley mentored her and other celebrities on celebrity ITV diving reality show Splash! in 2014, but it would be quite a different experience if they rubbed shoulders underwater on Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters.
He is 11/10 for a reunion with Mordaunt on the programme, and the recently retired diver also has some experience with sharks on a screen - after he made a cameo in movie Sharknado 5.
Katie Price also appeared in Sharknado 5, and she is just 7/4 to feature in Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters.
Other Sharknado stars, including Tara Reid (5/2) and David Hasselhoff (7/2), might also be in the conversation, as could David's daughter, actress and model Hayley Hasselhoff, who is 10/1.
