Deaf Poker Tour Coming to Live! Philadelphia for 3-Day Tourney
The Deaf Poker Tour is coming to Casino & hotel Philadelphia for the first time in May.
The multi-event tournament will take place from Thursday through Saturday. This three-day, seven-tournament event will be dedicated to assisting hearing-impaired players to compete in the top casinos across the country.
“We’re thrilled to host The Deaf Poker Tour for their first tournament in Philadelphia,” Anne Tran, Director of Poker at Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia said in a media release. “It is truly inspiring to see so many people with an affinity for the game communicate in a different way than we’re used to in the Poker Room. The tournament provides us with the opportunity to bridge the gap between the hearing world and the deaf community and we’re very proud of it.”
The Deaf Poker Tour was started by six friends in 2006 who wanted to bring the best hearing-impaired poker players together.
Since then, deaf players from across the country have competed in tournaments that allow them to sharpen their skills and enjoy their passion for poker together.
The tournaments have taken place in casinos in Maryland, Atlantic City, Las Vegas and now Philadelphia.
The tournament provides sign language interpreters and writing materials at each table to help conversations between dealers and players.
The tournaments also have dealers who are required to be trained in sign language in order to run the games. Most of the dealers and pit managers at the Live! Poker Room welcomes the challenge of learning a new skill, meeting new customers and participating in an event that grows the game since there are no barriers to communication.
More than 100 players are expected to compete in seven events over three days.
