Top 10 Biggest Casinos in the USA

There are some very big casinos in the USA, including the largest in the world. Typically the size of a casino’s gaming floor is taken as the key indicator of its size. However there are other relevant metrics that are also worth considering, some of which might be more relevant to visitors than purely the size of the gaming space.

It may be a cliche, but size isn’t everything and most people who visit real-life casinos do so due to what’s on offer inside, rather than the sheer size of it. Not all casino goers are there for the same reason, some don’t even gamble at all, but go for the dining and entertainment options that most large casinos in the USA are famed for.

While many prefer to stay at home and play online, others like to get out there and experience it for real. Those that do also have varied tastes. Some prefer table games, others enjoy slots. Sports fans might prefer to spend most of their time in the Sportsbook, while some will be drawn to bingo lounges or perhaps the poker room for a bit of Texas Hold’em or some Pot Limit Omaha.

Most large casinos in the USA are more than just casinos, they are resorts, with one or more hotels on site, showrooms, conference spaces, vast dining options, some catering for the whole family, with games arcades, escape rooms, movie theatres and much more.

We take a look at the ten largest casinos in the USA, ranked by floor space and see how they size up against each other when other factors are taken into consideration, including:

  • The Number of Slot machines: slots are the most popular game in the casino and includes titles from all game providers.
  • The number of table games tables: table games are more traditional, but still very popular casino games, such as Roulette, Blackjack, Punto Banco (Baccarat), Craps, Caribbean Stud Poker, 3-Card Poker, Pai Gow Poker, Casino War and many others.
  • Hotel rooms: If you’re in from out of town and plan to stay for a few days, some casinos are better equipped than others.
  • Catering outlets: Whether you’re there to gamble or not, we all have to eat and large casinos usually have a good range of choices available.
  • Poker tables: If there is a poker room on the property, the number of tables the venue operates is a good indication of how likely you are to get a game, be it a cash game or a tournament.. The bigger the poker room, the busier it usually is.

Perhaps surprisingly, there are no casinos from Las Vegas featured on the list, however, if we had extended it down as far as the top 20, several would have made an appearance on this list, including MGM Grand and Wynn-Encore.

1st: WinStar World Casino & Resort, Thackerville, Oklahoma

WinStar World Casino
  • Gaming Floor: 519,000 square feet (biggest gaming floor space)
  • Slot machines: 7,500 (most slots)
  • Table games: 99
  • Hotel rooms:, 1,499
  • Catering outlets: 20+
  • Poker tables: 47

Open since 2003, the WinStar World Casino & Resort, owned and operated by the Chickasaw Nation tops the list. Located in Thackerville, Oklahoma, it is one of four casinos in the Sooner State to have made the top ten list.

With 519,000 square feet of gaming space It is by far the biggest casino not only in the state, or the country and at one time, it was the biggest in the world.

The casino has a long sprawling gaming space, which has several different themes, each based on famous capitals of the world, such as London, Paris, Cairo and New York.

The venue ticks most of the boxes when it comes to the gaming products on offer, with a large poker room, a bingo hall and a sportsbook. However with just 99 table games, split across three different pits on the gaming floor, it falls well behind some of the other behemoths on the list when it comes to the number of table games on offer.

Slots are the main attraction at WinStar World Casino, with over 7,500 and at one time there were close to 10,000 within the property. Some space has been repurposed for  non-gaming activities in recent years.

Lucas Oil Live concert venue, a golf course, the global events centre and lively bars and restaurants are the key non-gaming attractions. It’s not a particularly kid friendly resort, as apart from the hotel’s swimming pools, the entertainment options are better suited to adults only.

2nd: Mohegan Sun, Uncasville, Connecticut

Mohegan Sun
  • Gaming Floor: 350,000+ square feet
  • Slot machines: 4,000
  • Table games: 300+ (most table games)
  • Hotel rooms: 1,653
  • Catering outlets: 40+ (most catering outlets)
  • Poker tables: 33

Mohegan Sun is one of the biggest resorts on the East Coast, situated in Uncasville, Connecticut. It opened its doors to business in 1996 and includes two casinos, hotels and numerous entertainment options, making it an attractive destination for the whole family, not just for adults who like to gamble.

Mohegan Sun offers the second largest gaming floor space in the USA, with a vast quantity of all game types available. Although its 4,000 slot machines are significantly fewer than at WinStar, Yaamava and Choctaw, it more than makes up for this with over 300 gaming tables and a vast array of dining options.

The Mohegan Sun’s poker room has 30 tables and hosts daily cash games and tournaments, as well as hosting larger festivals and special events, such as the North American Poker Tour (NAPT).

The casino also has a state of the art sportsbook, which also offers players stadium style betting on roulette and baccarat.

With indoor and outdoor pools, a kids play centre, bowling and many other nearby attractions, Mohegan Sun is a family friendly resort where kids are welcome, just not inside the main casino.

3rd: Foxwoods Resort Casino, Mashantucket, Connecticut

Foxwoods Resort Casino
  • Gaming Floor: 344,000 square feet
  • Slot machines: 3,500
  • Table games: 250+
  • Hotel rooms: 2,270 (most hotel rooms)
  • Catering outlets: 30
  • Poker tables: 54 (most poker tables)

Measuring up slightly behind Mohegan Sun is another East Coast giant, also located in Connecticut, at Mashantucket. It is owned by the Pequot Tribal Nation and they even have a museum onsite, for visitors to learn more about their history and culture.

The gaming offering is similar to that found at Mohegan Sun, with slightly fewer in most categories. But with 3,500 slots and over 250 gaming tables, it is still one of the biggest casinos in the whole country.

Foxwoods has a larger poker room than Mohegan Sun, with 54 tables reserved for cash games and tournaments. It also has a 2-storey sports-book, which is a collaboration with DraftKings, providing numerous kiosks throughout the property for ease of use.

Foxwoods also has a huge dedicated bingo hall, which can accommodate over 2,000 players at a time. That’s a whole heap of clickety-click, with players given the option of both electronic and more traditional card-based bingo games to participate in.

Where Foxwoods really stands out amongst all the venues on this list, is its provision of activities for families with kids. It has a drive-in movie theatre, bowling lanes, an arcade, virtual reality rides, karting, a zip line and in winter, even an ice-skating rink. An indoor water park is also due to open in spring 2025.

It also has a concert hall and a theatre as well as many nightclubs, bars and restaurants.

4th: Yaamava’ Resort & Casino, San Bernardino, California

Yaamava Resort and Casino
  • Gaming Floor: 290,000 square feet
  • Slot machines: 7,200
  • Table games: 150+
  • Hotel rooms: 432
  • Catering outlets: 10
  • Poker tables: 0

In 4th place, Yaamava is the oldest casino on the list, having first opened its doors in 1986, initially as a bingo hall. The property, which is one hour’s drive from Los Angeles, was originally known as San Manuel Indian Bingo and soon diversified into slots and casino games, being renamed San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino in 1994.

However in 2017 it finally closed its bingo hall to make way for more slot machines, which remains its most distinguishing feature, as its 7,200 machine inventory is by far the largest of any casino on the west coast.

It was only in 2021 that the venue added a hotel and renamed itself once again, to become the Yaamava Resort & Casino. The name Yaamava is the native word for spring in Serrano, the San Manuel Band of Indians’ native language.

The ambition for the property is not limited to slots or casino games, it has also reinvented itself as an all-round entertainment destination, with the addition of a 2,800 seat theatre, which hosted the Red Hot Chilli Peppers for its inaugural concert.

It’s a great casino for high rollers, with several high limit areas and lounges, however it doesn’t tick all the boxes for everyone. It did have a small poker room, however this closed in 2019 and did not reappear after the venue rebranded in 2021.

There is also no Sportsbook of course, as sports betting isn’t yet legal in California, despite several failed attempts to legalise it. Due to ongoing political wrangling between lawmakers and tribal casinos, that isn’t likely to change anytime soon.

5th: Thunder Valley Casino Resort, Lincoln, California

Thunder Valley Casino Resort
  • Gaming Floor: 250,000 square feet
  • Slot machine: 3,400
  • Table games: 110
  • Hotel rooms: 410
  • Catering outlets: 14
  • Poker tables: 28

Located north of Sacramento, Thunder Valley is the biggest resort of its kind in northern California. It’s been open since 2003 and in addition to having the fifth biggest gaming floor in the USA, the resort also has a 4,500 seater venue, which is simply called ‘The Venue.’

With well over 3,000 slot machines and over 100 table games, plus a vibrant poker room, it’s as good a gaming spot as can be found anywhere in the region.

The poker room has 28 tables, but this is extended several times a year, when visiting tours like the WSOP Circuit and the World Poker Tour (WPT) hold events. Smaller tours, such as the Rungood Series also make regular pit stops at Thunder Valley.

‘The Venue’ does what it says on the tin and has hosted acts like the Eagles, The Beach Boys and Santana, with Bryan Adams and Janet Jackson on the 2024 bill. Kids are also pretty well looked after here, with various activities available at the Thunder Valley Entertainment Center, including mini-golf, bowling, Go-Karting, Laser Tag and a games arcade.

6th: Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Tampa, Florida

Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino
  • Gaming Floor: 245,000 square feet
  • Slot machines: 5,000
  • Table games: 180
  • Hotel rooms: 800
  • Catering outlets: 10
  • Poker tables: 46

The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is one of the most iconic casinos in the world, with one of its three guest residences being the iconic guitar shaped hotel that the brand is known for. But hang on, that’s in Hollywood and I’m afraid that’s not this one, which is in Tampa.

Although it is the biggest of the Seminole Florida properties, it sadly doesn’t have the guitar shaped hotel as a design feature. But it does have one of the biggest gaming floors in the United States of America and by far the largest in Florida, with 245,000 square feet in total.

This is 55,000 more space to gamble in than at the Hollywood version…with its flashy guitar shaped hotel…which quite frankly, who needs, when you’re hard at it on the Hard Rock gaming floor?

There are over 5,000 slot machines on the property and close to 200 table games, including roulette, blackjack, craps and many more, with both smoking and non-smoking gaming lounges. The venue also has a huge poker room with a 46-table capacity and runs cash games and tournaments daily.

And even though the building is not guitar shaped, it does have the usual Hard Rock guitars and memorabilia adorning the walls within. It's not a great resort to take your kids to however, as most of the entertainment is adult oriented, however there are family friendly attractions nearby such as Busch Gardens.

7th: Choctaw Casino Resort, Durant, Oklahoma

Choctaw Casino Resort

Gaming Floor: 219,000 square feet

  • Slot machines: 7,400
  • Table games: 100
  • Hotel rooms:1,600
  • Catering outlets: 20
  • Poker tables: 30

Choctaw Casino Resort in Durant, Oklahoma is the seventh biggest casino in the USA and one that will be familiar to poker players, as it is a regular venue for major poker events, such as the WSOPC, which makes two stops per year here.

The casino opened for business in 2006, as the Choctaw Bingo Palace, but gradually expanded to become a much larger casino resort, which attracts a lot of its 1.2m annual visitors from nearby Texas, where casinos are illegal. There are several hotels on site, with over 1,600 rooms combined.

Despite being much smaller than WinStar, at 7,400 it has almost as many slot machines and the same number of table games as the biggest casino in the state. It also has a better spread of family entertainment, with a bowling alley, an arcade, swimming pools, a movie theatre and many other attractions on offer.

There is a Racebok and although there is not yet a Sportsbook, the casino already has a deal in place with a sports betting provider to open a facility at the property as soon as legislation passes to allow it to do so.

Choctaw is a great choice of venue for casino players with teenage kids, with plenty to keep them entertained at the resort, while adults can make full use of the gaming facilities on offer.

8th: RiverWind Casino, Norman, Oklahoma

RiverWind Casino
  • Gaming Floor: 219,000 square feet
  • Slot machines: 2,800
  • Table games: 45
  • Hotel rooms: 100
  • Catering outlets: 8
  • Poker tables: 11

The River Wind is the third Oklahoma casino to make the top ten list, coming in at number eight, with 219,000 square feet of gaming space. It has the same gaming floor space as Choctaw, but lags behind in most other categories.

RiverWind Casino Resort is managed and run by the Chickasaw Nation, who also own and operate the casino at the top of this list, the WinStar. However overall it's more of a casino than a resort, with just a boutique sized 100 room hotel onsite.

While the River Wind has nowhere near the 600,000 square feet of gaming space that the WinStar boasts, it still has a fairly impressive sized floor, which hosts 2,800 slots and 45 gaming tables, including all the usual favourites, like blackjack and roulette.

Poker players are also well catered to, with a small, but functional cash game focused room with 11 tables. You also won’t find a sportsbook at the River Wind, but it does have an off-track betting office to place bets on horse racing.

Riverwind does have a strong entertainment strand, with the 1,500 seater Showpiece Theater, which has hosted acts as famous as BB King, and at the other end of the alphabet, ZZ Top.

All-in all, it sounds like one of the least impressive casinos in the list, but if they chuck us a free suite, theatre tickets and as much juiced up gaming action as we can chew off in a weekend, we might just do a more in-depth review. Norman, Oklahoma, here we come!

9th: River Spirit Casino Resort, Tulsa Oklahoma

River Spirit Casino Resort
  • Gaming Floor: 212,000 square feet
  • Slot machines: 3,100
  • Table games: 45
  • Hotel rooms: 480
  • Catering outlets: 13
  • Poker tables: 12

Ninth on the list, with 212,000 square feet of gaming space is the River Spirit Casino, the fourth mega casino in the state of Oklahoma to feature in the country’s top ten. Like all the casinos on this list so far, it is owned by an Indian tribe, the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.

It's actually not just one casino, but two, as it includes the Margaritaville Casino & Restaurant within its walls. It is similar in size to the River Wind Casino, but has a larger adjoining hotel with 480 rooms, which upgrades the status of the property to a resort.

With over 3,000 slots and 45 gaming tables, plus a 12 table poker room, it's a solid gaming offering, if not the most exciting one to be found in the state.

River Spirit has a strong entertainment offering, with a 2,500 seat theatre called The Cove, which hosts concerts and comedians. It also stages mixed martial arts (MMA) and boxing bouts and has ample live music in many locations throughout the property  on most weekends.

However, it's not a great resort for kids, as apart from the hotel’s tropical-themed pool, there’s not much for them to do here. Best left at home (but not alone) while mummy and daddy go have some fun at the casino.

10th: Encore Boston Harbor, Everett, Massachusetts

Encore Boston Harbor
  • Gaming Floor Space: 210,000 square feet
  • Slot machines: 2,700
  • Table games: 185
  • Hotel rooms: 670
  • Catering outlets: 15
  • Poker tables: 24

The tenth biggest and final entry on our list of the ten biggest casinos in the USA is the Encore Boston Harbor, in Everrett, Massachusetts. It has a design and layout very similar to that of the Wynn-Encore in Las Vegas, with 210,000 of gaming space. It is one of the newest casinos in America, opening only in 2019.

It is a high end resort with spectacular views over Boston from its 27 floor-tall wall-to-wall glass tower, which shimmers at night when seen from a distance. The hotel is five star and is beautifully decorated with floral walkways and lush carpets with gorgeous designs.

It's not the cheapest place to play, but it is one of the classiest casinos to hang out at and have a fun time at, as well as trying your luck at the tables. Speaking of which, there is a good selection of games  to be found amongst the 185 tables in the gaming pits, including rarities like Blackjack Switch, Casino War and Made You Google It.

The extensive table game offering compliments the 2,700 slot machines and 24-table poker room that is housed at the venue. There is also a sportsbook with a huge video wall, which opened in 2023 and is  operated by WynnBet.

With 16 restaurants and bars, all on the high-end of the scale, it is a place for people with lots of cash to hang out at, plus those who get lucky at the tables and are happy to fake it for a night.

It's good, clean, expensive fun at its best and is well worth a night or two of extravagance to experience all the charms the resort has to offer. And when it's all getting too fake for you, you can get out of there and head to the real part of Boston Harbor, to get a clam chowder.
