2019 MLS Cup Early Betting Preview
The 2018 MLS betting season is now well in the past, and the folks at 888Sport and SugarHouse in New Jersey have rung in the new year with the odds for who will win the 2019 MLS Cup for fans of soccer betting to consider.
In addition, the lines have also been issued towards who will win their respected conferences as the 24th Major League Soccer campaign kicks off this coming March.
The league has been increased to 24 teams with a new season on the horizon, and the playoff structure has also been implemented as 14 clubs will rewarded with postseason appearances.
As the lines show, two Eastern Conference clubs find themselves among the favorites to take the 24th MLS Cup trophy. Atlanta has been positioned behind the NY Red Bulls on the odds podium after winning their first MLS Cup in only their second season of MLS existence.
That could change as the news of Atlanta’s manager Gerardo "Tata" Martino, has left to take over for 0the Mexican National Team, which was just recently announced on January 7.
The Red Bulls have yet to win an MLS Cup yet they are one of the original clubs to join the league when it was established in 1996.
A Supporters Shield award was wasted last season, as manager Chris Armas took over late in the season, and led the Red Bulls to their best finish in 23 years. Armas has yet to be signed for the 2019 campaign as of yet, although it is expected to be announced that he will be starting his first full year in charge. Time will tell.
Former USMNT manager Bob Bradley is the only returning head coach among the top-4 teams on the big board, as he led LAFC to a third-place finish in the Western Conference final standings, and had the 5th best record in MLS overall.
The LA Galaxy sit alongside their local rivals at +600, as they too will be bringing in a new head coach, as Argentinian Guillermo Barros Schelotto was just signed on January 2 after spending the last 2 years at Copa Juniors.
With two months to go before the first whistle blows to kick off the 24th MLS campaign, who can we expect to come out on top in 2019?
MLS Cup 2019 Early Best Bet
The LAFC has the potential to take the trophy in 2019, and the +600 odds are lovely to anyone looking for some preseason futures action at 888Sport. We might be facing a coast-to-coast MLS Cup finale this season, as Atlanta and LAFC might be going at it on November 10, 2019.

2019 MLS Eastern Conference Futures Odds

The East is going to be as wide open as it has always been, and it will be interesting to see how Atlanta defends their title with a new manager, Netherlands native Frank de Boer.
His European influence can certainly only bring a another dimension to a team that already has quite a South American influence. If Atlanta’s roster stays in-tact, they will take that +190 line to the bank.
Longshot pick: Columbus Crew at +1600 with SugarHouse
2019 MLS Western Conference Futures Odds
MLS Western Conference | Futures Odds |
---|---|
LA Galaxy | +165 |
Los Angeles FC | +165 | Seattle Sounders | +200 |
Sporting KC | +450 |
Portland Timbers | +800 |

The West is expected to go through the City of Angels, with both LA teams sitting atop the odds makers expectations to also potentially move on to the MLS Cup FInals. This will be the season that Bob Bradley brings LAFC to prominence, so I expect that +165 as co-favorites to go on and win the Supporters Shield ending up with the best regular-season record in all of MLS.
Longshot pick: Portland Timbers at +800 with SugarHouse -- a lovely potential board-buster, now that Coach Gio has a season under his belt in which he led the team to the MLS Cup Finals.
