Golf Betting Tips: Predictions, Analysis & Odds For The 2023 Ryder Cup

Ryder Cup Tips:

Betting sites cannot split Team USA and Team Europe heading into the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome this weekend.

The Americans head to Italy with a full gamut of PGA Tour players at their disposal, with Brooks Koepka the only LIV member included. He flew into Rome separately from the rest of them.

Team Europe, meanwhile, have no LIV players in their ranks as the breakaway tour is a direct rival to the European Tour. Therefore we’re denied the exploits of Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter this weekend.

Earlier in the week bookies opted to make Team USA favourites to win an away Ryder Cup for the first time since 1993.

However, those odds have already changed in the days leading up to the first tee time on Friday.

Considering what happened in the Solheim Cup only a week ago – when Europe clawed back a 14-14 draw against the US after suffering heavy early defeats – it’s hard to accurately predict how the 2023 Ryder Cup will pan out.

Here, we look at the three core Ryder Cup betting markets to keep an eye on over the coming days.

It’s almost impossible to split the teams in the Ryder Cup betting odds right now. USA’s core group of players have thrived since the LIV controversy and are 11/10 with most books to win.

That gives them a 47.6% chance, according to the bookies. Europe, meanwhile, are without some iconic names but as hosts may feel they have an edge in Rome.

Ryder Cup betting firms had them at 5/4 at the start of week but practically all of them have cut Europe’s odds to Evens within 48 hours of the first match.

Remember, USA beat Europe 19-9 two years ago and few punters reckon it will be that unbalanced this time around.

Betting data shows 47% of punters are backing the US, compared to 46% of wagers going on Europe. The odds of a draw have lingered around 11/1 for some time.

It’s probably right to assume America have the better golfers available for this tournament.

However, Europe are at home and have two of the world’s top players in Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm at their disposal.

Europe have thrived as a team in the past and will need to do so again to get over the line here.

Top Europe Points Scorer Odds

Betting on the Ryder Cup odds offers punters a huge range of options, from correct score betting to backing players in individual matches. A lot of focus, though, goes on the top point scorers for each team.

Europe are without their all-time top points scorer Sergio Garcia, who has amassed 28.5 points over his career.

Lee Westwood (24) and Ian Poulter (16) also leave a void that needs to be filled.

The bookies are all pointing to Rory McIlroy at 9/2 to be Europe’s top points scorer.

It’s likely he will play all four matches over Friday and Saturday, and of course Sunday’s singles too.

However, from six Ryder Cups, McIlroy's record reads W12 L12 D4. That’s a pretty even split and reveals how the Northern Irishman doesn’t always come good for Europe.

Only seven other Europeans in this team have played Ryder Cup before. Justin Rose (13-8-2) has the best record and yet is 14/1 to top score.

Rose may not play every match available to him but he is a calm operator and well worth looking at.

Jon Rahm, as well, needs a good tournament if Europe are to rival the Americans here.

His 4-3-1 record from two Ryder Cups isn’t exactly outstanding, but he has a 100% record in foursomes that he will seek to extend. He is 5/1 to outscore his team-mates.

The US also have eight players who have competed in Ryder Cup action before. However, for four of them this is only their second tournament.

Patrick Cantlay, Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele each earned three points when they last played Ryder Cup golf and have kicked on in their careers over the past couple of years.

Cantlay in particular is tipped for a strong tournament and is 6/1 to top score for the US, alongside Schauffele.

What’s notable, however, is that the bookies have gone big on Scottie Scheffler. The 27-year-old hasn’t won a tournament since the Players Championship. However, he is consistent and won two matches for the US at the last Ryder Cup.

Scheffler is 9/2 with golf betting sites to be America’s top scorer. However, only 10% punters are backing him.

Instead, bettors are looking at Max Homa at 9/1 to deliver a scintillating debut. Homa has picked up four top-10 finishes in a row this autumn.

He hasn’t played in the Ryder Cup before, but a quarter of all punters are backing him to steal the headlines in Rome.
