It Just Takes Time looked like a horse who despised Ripon’s track when running there last time, looking uncomfortable before becoming unbalanced inside the last couple of furlongs. That’s particularly strange when you consider that he posted a new career-best performance to win over the same C&D a couple of weeks previous, showing no obvious dislike of the track on that occasion.

It’s hard to figure out what was going on, to the point that I think it might be worth just marking it down as an off-day and ignoring the run. If he’s back to the level shown previously, there’s no doubting that he’ll be a big player here even off a 3lb higher mark and this is a C&D that suits his attributes. Rain won’t be a problem and Tom Marquand is booked to ride for the first time. They should be involved.

17:25 Wolverhampton – Viewfromthestars – 1pt @ 14/1

Viewfromthestars is 0-21 so there’s plenty of wishing and hoping when it comes to supporting him for the win, but he arrives on the back of his first two turf starts since joining Mark Usher and doesn’t seem to have much talent on that surface. His talent is limited regardless but he has been second or third on the All-Weather seven times from 17 starts and clearly prefers the artificial conditions.

Given that he can be on the keener side of things, returning to 6f in search of a stronger pace will help and Hayley Turner is back on board. She almost got him to win at Kempton in March, when he went down by a neck after meeting trouble, and her quiet style suits the horse. He’ll need luck when coming through but if the splits appear and those up top aren’t getting away, he may just be a big player.
