India vs Bangladesh ODI World Cup: Latest Odds & Analysis

India v Bangladesh predictions:

When: Thursday 19 October, 2:00pm IST

Where: Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad

Watch: Star Sports, Hotstar

Best Odds: India 1.11, Bangladesh 8.00

Afghanistan and the Netherlands both turned the 2023 ODI World Cup on its head with unexpected wins against semi-finals contenders England and South Africa.

After they were humbled by both England and New Zealand, Bangladesh will be hoping to add to the list to keep their own hopes alive.

Those two upsets coupled with Australia’s sluggish start to the tournament has so far left India unrivalled, to the point they are now standout favourites in the outright winner market with the best cricket betting sites around the world.

The Numbers That Matter

  • The average ODI run rate at this venue is 6.1rpo from seven matches
  • India have a 4-3 ODI record in Gahunje
  • Jasprit Bumrah has eight wickets from 30 ODI overs bowled in Gahunje
  • Mustafizur Rahman has figures of 4-12 against Ravindra Jadeja in ODIs/T20Is

There’s no stopping the World Cup favourites

It’s hardly a value pick by any definition of the word, but on the basis of their current form it’s also near impossible to manage India playing poorly enough in Pune to drop two points.

That’s because India has so many household names standing up and delivering match-winning performances at the moment, and even just one can be enough to get the better of Bangladesh.

Kohli, Shreyas, Rohit and KL Rahul have all already posted 50+ scores, Shubman Gill is sure to be back to his best once he has regained full fitness following his battle with dengue, and four different bowlers already five 5+ wickets to their name as part of the 28 of a possible 30 wickets that India has taken.

Conversely, Bangladesh are scoring at just 4.7 runs per over so far in this tournament and are conceding a below-average 5.9 runs per over, with Mushfiqur Rahim their only batter to have so far aggregated 100+ tournament runs in three games.

Bangladesh’s bowlers are going to have to be right on their game at a venue that more often than not produces 300+ scores, which as we know is India’s domain.

Prediction: India to win - 1.1 @ Luckster Sport

In-form Rohit to rage ahead

Whether his side lifts the trophy or not late next month, Rohit Sharma will bow out as one of the greatest ODI World Cup players his country has ever produced.

There were no concerns immediately following his duck in the opening game against Australia as fans backed him in to begin delivering shortly, and boy did he.

131 against Afghanistan and 86 in the win over Pakistan has him primed to reach his peak once again, and there are no shortage of memories from the 2019 edition to know how far he can extend his best form throughout a World Cup.

The only issue is the venue - his ODI average in Gahunje is just 24.50 after six innings without a half-century - but his IPL ample experience in nearby Mumbai is also worth considering.

He currently has a slightly better price than an unfit Shubman Gill to top score for India and it appeals after his previous two innings.

Some tantalising Tiger value

The majority of Bangladesh’s top scorers from their last ten or so ODI innings have come from beyond the opening pair, one of which had double digit odds across most cricket betting sites at time of publication.

Towhid Hridoy is fairly new to the international scene but has already recorded five half-centuries this calendar year including two on the big stage of the recent Asia Cup.

He was Bangladesh’s top scorer with 82 in a narrow loss to Sri Lanka at that event, before immediately following it up with 54 in their Super Fours win over India only to be overshadowed by Shakib Al Hasan’s 80.

Hridoy recorded a promising rearguard 39 against England only to meet one of the finest leg-breaks Liam Livingstone will ever deliver for his country.

One thing admittedly not in his favour is that Mushfiqur Rahim’s excellent form will keep him pushed down to number six, but a typical top order collapse from Bangladesh would give the confident middle order batter some time to forge something meaningful.

Not only that, but Litton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim and Najmul Hossain Shanto all have poor records against India that could take them out of the equation here.
