T20 World Cup India v Bangladesh: Latest Odds & Analysis

India v Bangladesh predictions:

When: Saturday 22 June, 8:00pm IST

Where: Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound

Watch: Star Sports and Disney+ Hotstar

Best Odds: India 1.1, Bangladesh 7.5

India’s 2024 T20 World Cup campaign is yet to hit an obstacle and they were clinical almost from start to finish.

The opening partnership continues to be short of runs as a pair but there is a refreshing intent from the start that saw them muscle their way to 181 against Afghanistan on what was not an easy pitch to bat, which became much more evident when the Afghans commenced their chase.

They’re now on an eight-game winning streak that includes four successful run chases with at least six wickets in hand, and with Kuldeep Yadav taking two wickets in his first appearance of the tournament, there’s a sense that they’re still yet to hit fifth gear at this World Cup.

Cricket betting sites are anticipating one of their easiest victories of the tournament yet, with India remarkably short odds against a team that has never defeated them in a T20 World or Asia Cup (0-6), whilst the head-to-head record of 12-1 in India’s favour is particularly compelling.

Rather than accept such odds for an India win, we’ve delved into the stats to work out the likely players to contribute to such a result.

The Numbers That Matter

  • The average run rate in North Sound at this T20WC is 8.32rpo
  • Teams that score 150+ batting first in North Sound have a 7-1 record
  • Mahmudullah batting in the Caribbean: 139 runs from ten innings at 13.9
  • Ravindra Jadeja batting in the West Indies: 72 runs from six innings at 18

The Arshdeep Express has no brakes

Every bowler has a type of overseas pitch they wish they could roll up and pack in their luggage to take everywhere with them.

For Indian left-arm quick Arshdeep Singh, it must be the ones he has enjoyed in the Americas over the years.

His 3-36 against Afghanistan in Barbados was just the latest of many successful T20 outings in the West Indies and USA, where has taken 24 wickets from 14 matches despite not always bowling four overs.

He’s in red hot form at this World Cup with 2+ wickets in four of his five games so far, and has come an immensely long way as an international bowler since taking 2-38 in his last outing against a full strength Bangladesh team, which was at the 2022 T20 World Cup.

There’s no reason why he can’t be even better this time around, so the 1.83 price on various cricket betting apps could be a good investment!

Prediction: Arshdeep Singh over 1.5 wickets - 1.83 @ 22Bet Sports

No satisfaction with Shakib’s India matchups

After our foray into the player performance markets last time was a successful one thanks to Hardik Pandya failing to take a wicket or a catch against Afghanistan, we’re leaning on historical evidence again to predict an underwhelming performance from Bangladesh’s former captain.

He’s their only player to record a half-century at this World Cup to date - 64* against associate nation Netherlands - but outside of that recorded just 36 runs from four innings and was left wicketless in four of those five matches.

The hard numbers, with a sample size of seven matches, suggest that India has been one of Shakib’s most difficult opponents over a 13-year history.

He has a top score of just 22 from seven T20Is against India, averaging just 10.71 courtesy of four single digit scores, whilst a return of 2-33 in the last T20 World Cup was the only of those seven games in which he finished with more than one wicket.

That could make getting out of his medium-term form slump, which includes a best score of just 21 from his last eight T20I innings against fellow full members, quite difficult.

Add to that an average of just 22 in all T20s against India’s last bowling attack and it’ll take an above-average performance from an out-of-form veteran to clear the 33.5 point mark set by betting sites in India.

Prediction: Shakib Al Hasan under 33.5 PP points - 1.83 @ 22Bet Sports

The rise of a roaring Rishabh

Just his third dismissal from 17 overs faced against Rashid Khan in all T20s thwarted Rishabh Pant’s contribution in the win over Afghanistan, but it was a mistake that he will hopefully learn from when approaching the leg-spin of Rishad Hossain this weekend.

Rishabh is averaging 29 runs per innings at this World Cup regardless of whether he was dismissed (which is the more important average cricket bettors should be looking at since Indian betting sites don’t pay on traditional averages, do they?!).

He also has fresh memories of a 32-ball 53 retired against Bangladesh in an official warm-up that included three sixes in a single Shakib over, a matchup that could again take place in this game.

But it’s not just Shakib who he should enjoy batting against: he also averages 85 against the bowling of Mustafizur Rahman in all T20s!

He looks primed for another impactful innings.

Prediction: Rishabh Pant 30+ runs - 2.2 @ 22Bet Sports
