Bernardo Silva Next Club Odds: PSG Emerge As Shock Contenders To Sign Him
We are entering the home strait of the summer transfer window and betting sites anticipate plenty more action before the September 1 deadline.
Numerous Premier League sides will be hoping to add to their squads before the market closes for business until January.
They will also be keen to keep hold of their important stars, but the situation is not always in the hands of the clubs.
Bernardo Silva is one player who could be on the move, despite Manchester City’s desperation to keep hold of him.
Pep Guardiola has already made his feelings clear this summer, telling the media earlier this month: “Of course, I would love for Bernardo to continue here, he is a special player in the dressing room for me, but I don't know what is going to happen. Honestly, I don't know.
“What is going to happen will happen and if he stays it's perfect, and if he has to leave it's because football is like this, the clubs have an agreement, the player has desires, and I am not the person to stop the desire of people.”
So, where will Silva be plying his trade in September? Let’s take a look at the odds and then assess the options.
Manchester City Stay Looking Increasingly Likely
Silva was included in Manchester City’s starting XI against Newcastle United for the first time this season.
It was his goal that rescued a point for the Premier League champions at St James’ Park, as City came from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 with Eddie Howe’s men on Sunday.
Silva was arguably City’s standout performer on their way to Premier League glory last season, despite being heavily linked with a move away from the club the previous summer.
Silva’s mentality and attitude means he will knuckle down even if he does not get the transfer he seems to desire.
City have reportedly slapped an £84m price tag on the Portugal international, and they will be particularly loath to lose him now that we are so close to the deadline.
Silva may not be a City player for the long term, but he probably will be for the remainder of the current campaign - hence the fact he is odds-on at 4/9 on football betting sites to stay put.
Paris Saint-Germain Emerges As Possible Destination
Barcelona appeared to be the only show in town until recently, but Paris Saint-Germain have emerged as the new 17/10 favourites should Silva seek pastures new in the next fortnight.
The French giants have made a blistering start to the Ligue 1 season, as punters have flocked to use their Champions League free bets on them following their 7-1 drubbing of Lille recently.
But their new manager Christoph Galtier will (like all of his recent predecessors) be judged on how PSG fare in Europe.
Silva is the type of player who could help to balance out a team that still looks top-heavy. He is a fantastic link man who would knit the PSG side together, while his tenacity and industriousness would no doubt be highly appreciated by the Parc des Princes faithful.
PSG are thought to have had a £68m bid for Silva rejected, but they could return with an improved offer, so watch this space.
Barcelona Could Launch Late Move For Bernardo Silva
Barcelona have drifted to 5/1 with Unibet. This has been an extraordinary summer at the Camp Nou so nothing can be ruled out, but as things stand the Blaugrana seem to have put their pursuit of Silva on hold.
A strategy of selling off future revenue streams in order to fund a squad rebuild was always going to be a gamble in the long term, but it has not been smooth sailing in the here and now either.
Barcelona have not yet been able to register Jules Kounde, a summer signing from Sevilla, and they will not be able to do so until they can demonstrate they are in compliance with La Liga’s salary cap regulations.
That is Barcelona’s focus right now and if the club can get that sticky situation sorted out, they might consider a late swoop for Silva - but right now it seems improbable.
Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Juventus among outsiders
Odds are offered for each of Bayern Munich (14/1), Real Madrid (20/1) and Juventus (40/1) on betting apps, but it would be a huge shock if Silva ended up at any of those clubs.
Bayern prefer to do their business early and already have their squad ready for the 2022/23 season.
Madrid have repeatedly said they will not be signing any more players before the deadline, while it is unclear how appealing a switch to Juventus would actually be for Silva.
While the Portuguese star is supposedly keen to play for Barcelona one day, he is not so desperate to leave City that he would join any club that makes an offer.
