Next Luton Town Manager Odds: Matt Bloomfield New Favourite For Hatters
Luton’s troubled return to the Championship continued as they crashed to a fifth successive away defeat and betting sites are beginning to wonder whether a change of manager is due at Kenilworth Road.
A 3-0 loss at promotion hopefuls Leeds left the Hatters in 16th place in the table, just three points clear of the relegation zone.
Rob Edwards did a great job leading Luton to the Premier League, where they exceeded many people’s expectations by flirting with survival last season. Following their relegation, the club began plotting their path back to the top flight.
So far at least, they look more likely to drop into League One than make an immediate return to the top flight.
Edwards still has credit in the bank, but he is nonetheless beginning to come under pressure from fans who criticised him after the loss at Elland Road. So, who might replace him if Luton opt to make a change? Let’s take a look at some of the options.
Bloomfield On Pole For Hatters Role
Matt Bloomfield has been working miracles as manager of Wycombe, who top the League One table by four points on the back of an eight-game winning run.
The Chairboys started the season with back-to-back 3-2 defeats by Wrexham and Birmingham, but are unbeaten since then, winning 12 of their last 14 games.
Bloomfield is a Wycombe legend, having spent the whole of his playing career at the club where he made almost 500 appearances in a 19-year spell, so it would take an exceptional offer to prise him away from Adams Park.
It remains open to question whether the former midfielder would thrive in a new environment and he may want to finish what he started in February 2023.
Wycombe could feasibly swap places with Luton at the end of the season, but football betting sites still make the former Colchester boss 8/5 favourite to make the leap.

Rowett Looking For A Permanent Role
Gary Rowett’s last job was as interim manager of Birmingham City, but he was unable to save the club from relegation to League One last term. He did not stay on beyond the end of the season and has yet to take another job.
Rowett had a reputation for moving around with regularity earlier in his career, but a four-year spell at Millwall bolstered his reputation.
He is priced at 7/4 to take over at Luton, who could opt to make a change if results do not improve quickly under Edwards.
Robins Will Be Snapped Up Soon
Mark Robins won’t have to wait too long for his next appointment, but could that be with Luton?
Robins’ seven-year spell with Coventry ended in November despite leading the club to two promotions over three seasons and an FA Cup semi-final appearance they were unlucky to lose to Manchester United in a penalty shoot-out.
The former Red Devils, Norwich and Leicester striker should feel extremely satisfied with what he achieved with the Sky Blues and is likely to be on the radar of leading Football League clubs looking for a new manager.
Robins may want to take his time before making the right decision on his future, but he can be backed at 2/1 to get back on the wheel immediately at Kenilworth Road.

Cooper Also Available After Foxes Exit
Steve Cooper lasted just 12 games as Leicester manager amid rumours that players were unhappy with a change of approach from their previous manager Enzo Maresca, a popular figure with the Foxes squad.
In happier times, Cooper led Nottingham Forest to the Premier League with a remarkable run of form.
Forest were propping up the Championship table with four points from eight games at the start of the 2021/22 season, but eight months later they beat Huddersfield in the play-off final.
Luton’s board would prefer to focus on this stunning success rather than the fact he was sacked by Forest at the end of 2023 following five defeats in his last six Premier League games.
If the Hatters hierarchy thinks lightning could strike twice, they could do a lot worse than take a chance on Cooper who is 5/2 to embark on another miraculous turnaround.
Wagner Has Won Promotion From The Championship
Another manager renowned for leading a club to promotion from the Championship against the odds is David Wagner, who achieved that feat with Huddersfield in his first job in English football.
His stock has fallen a little since then, however, not helped by Norwich’s emphatic defeat by Leeds in the play-offs last season.
The German was dumped by the Canaries soon after that loss and he has not taken up another job since.
Wagner, who is 3/1 to end up at Luton, would no doubt argue that he fulfilled his remit of getting Norwich into the play-offs in the first place.
Lowe Has Recent Experience Of The Championship
By the end of his tenure as Preston manager, Ryan Lowe was generally unpopular with the Deepdale faithful.
However, he didn't have the biggest budget and, in those circumstances, he did a decent job to keep Preston in the top half of the Championship.
The Lancashire outfit and Lowe parted company after just one game and the manager is searching for his next opportunity.
Lowe has done enough to earn another shot at the Championship, and he is available at 7/2 with betting apps to be the next coach through the door at Luton.
Lennon Made For Success
In terms of success, none of the managers in this list can compare with Neil Lennon, who led Celtic to five Scottish Premiership titles between 2012-20 over two spells, having won the same number with the Hoops as a player.
In between his title triumphs at Celtic Park, the Northern Irishman also won the Scottish Championship with Hibernian in the 2016/17 season.
That said, the former Leicester midfielder has only once before coached in England, spending almost 18 months with Championship side Bolton between 2014-16.
Although Lennon acknowledged at the time how tough the job was in Lancashire, his CV cannot be questioned and he is 4/1 to head south of the border once again.
Other candidates in the running, include former Plymouth and Stoke boss Steven Schumacher (6/1), ex-Wales head coach Rob Page (8/1) and Stockport’s Dave Challinor (9/1).
Robbie Keane had a successful one-year spell as Maccabi Tel Aviv coach and is 12/1 to manage a team in England for the first time.
Jimmy Thelin, whose first season as Aberdeen manager has been an unbridled success, is available at 16/1.
