With the beginning of the new Premier League season starting soon, speculation over the future of players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin will only intensify.

Betting sites have continually shifted their odds this summer, and there is a new favourite to land the England international.

Last season was a frustrating one for Calvert-Lewin, who missed large chunks of it through injury. Even when he was fit again, Everton’s precarious predicament meant Frank Lampard at times left him on the bench.

The striker ended the campaign with five goals to his name, a significant drop-off from the previous year but an understandable one given his fitness struggles.

Still, it was he who popped up when Everton needed him most, scoring the goal that sealed survival against Crystal Palace in May.

Calvert-Lewin has plenty of credit in the bank, largely based on his performances across the 2019/20 and 2020/21 campaigns.

In the second of those he found the back of the net 16 times, a tally bettered only by Son Heung-min, Patrick Bamford, Bruno Fernandes, Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane.

Calvert-Lewin brings more to the table than just goals, so it is no surprise he has earned admiring glances from elsewhere in the Premier League.

But where will he be playing his football come September? Let’s take a look at the odds and then assess some of the potential destinations.

Newcastle The Favourites To Land Everton Frontman

Newcastle now lead the market to sign Calvert-Lewin, with football betting sites rating their chances at 7/5.

It would be sensible for Eddie Howe’s side to acquire another striker ahead of the new campaign, especially if the Magpies want to make a genuine fist of qualifying for a continental competition.

Howe has worked with Callum Wilson for years, but the former Bournemouth man is now in his 30s and saw his 2021/22 season disrupted by niggling injuries.

Joelinton has been reinvented as a midfielder and Chris Wood was a short-term purchase in January - he does not really fit Howe’s favoured style of play and may even leave before the summer window closes.

Dwight Gayle completes the pool of strikers currently at St James’ Park, but he is also unlikely to feature too prominently in Howe’s plans.

Calvert-Lewin would be an excellent fit. He excels as a lone striker and is able to hold the ball up, link the play and run the channels.

That is typical of what Howe wants from his centre-forward, while Calvert-Lewin arguably has the edge on Wilson inside the 18-yard box - particularly in the air. The big question is whether Newcastle would be able to agree a fee with Everton.

Man City Now Well Set At The Top End Of The Pitch

One of the headline transfers of the summer was Erling Haaland’s move to Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s side won the Premier League title without a recognised central striker last time out, so it stands to reason that they will be even more of a force now that they have bought one of the most prolific frontmen in Europe.

Julian Alvarez has also arrived at the Eithad Stadium, which more than makes up for Gabriel Jesus’ exit. If City are to do more business before the market closes for business, it will not be by signing Calvert-Lewin.

They might be second-favourites at 7/1 on betting apps, but this is not a deal that will go through this summer.

Ronaldo Situation Means Man United Are An Option

Erik ten Hag

Manchester United remain adamant that Cristiano Ronaldo is going nowhere, but that could change if the Portugal international really kicks up a fuss.

If he does leave Old Trafford in the next few weeks, United would almost certainly sign a replacement – and they are 17/2 to buy Calvert-Lewin from Everton.

The 25-year-old is a good age: he has experience under his belt but still has time to get better. He is proven in the Premier League and would no doubt combine well with the likes of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.

It would be a huge step up for Calvert-Lewin though, particularly if he was the successor to Ronaldo.

In the event that the 37-year-old does move on, United would probably look for a more proven striker who has already played at the highest level.

Arsenal’s Signing Of Jesus Means They Are Unlikely To Bid

Arsenal were reportedly considering a swoop for Calvert-Lewin earlier in the summer, but that is surely now off the table after they completed the signing of Gabriel Jesus.

Pep Guardiola preferred to deploy the Brazilian out wide, as did his national team boss Tite, but the 25-year-old has been bought by Arsenal as a central striker.

With only Eddie Nketiah in reserve at present, it is not impossible that Arsenal will look to sign another striker in the coming weeks.

It will surely not be Calvert-Lewin though, and, if anything, odds of 8/1 with 10Bet don't look too generous.

West Ham And Real Madrid Both Outsiders

West Ham United look set to bring in Armando Broja to compete for minutes with Michail Antonio.

That leaves little room in the squad for Calvert-Lewin, who is available at 20/1 to move to the London Stadium. He would probably view this move as a sideways step anyway.

Needless to say, the same would not be said of a switch to Real Madrid, priced at 30/1.

But even if the reigning European champions were actively looking for a new centre-forward, there would be dozens of names higher up their wish list than Calvert-Lewin’s.

The other possibility, of course, is that he stays put and this is still the most likely outcome. Everton have already lost Richarlison this summer and they will not want to see Calvert-Lewin follow him through the exit door.

The Toffees do have financial issues to resolve, but it would take a substantial offer for them to consider selling their go-to striker just two weeks before the season gets under way.
