England vs Wales Predictions:

England will qualify for the knockout stage of the World Cup if they manage to avoid defeat against Wales on Tuesday.

Betting sites make Gareth Southgate’s men the odds-on favourites to take all three points in this eagerly anticipated Battle of Britain.

However, they will need to rediscover their best form after delivering a limp performance in their 0-0 draw with the USA on Friday.

That left them top of Group B, one point clear of Iran, two ahead of the USA and three points in front of Wales.

Yet the Welsh are not dead and buried yet, as a heavy victory over England on Tuesday would see them reach the Round of 16. That seems unlikely, but this World Cup has taught us to expect the unexpected.

We have analysed the main betting markets for this vital World Cup clash and provided tips for each of them.

Who Will Win England vs Wales?

Robert Page’s men could be a little dejected after slumping to a heart-breaking 2-0 defeat at the hands of Iran last time out.

Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessy was sent off after careering out of his box and clattering into the onrushing Mehdi Taremi, and Iran capitalized upon the advantage by scoring twice deep into injury-time.

Hennessy will now be suspended for this game, leaving Wales reliant on understudy Danny Ward, who has looked a little shaky between the sticks for Leicester this season.

There are three ways in which the Welsh can qualify for the Round of 16: beat England by a four-goal margin; beat England by a three-goal margin and hope that the USA and Iran draw; or beat England by a two-goal margin and hope that the USA and Iran play out a low-scoring draw.

All three of those scenarios look unlikely. England have won the last six meetings between these teams, conceding just once in the process, and World Cup betting sites believe they look superior across the board.

That draw with the USA could serve as a wake-up call for the Three Lions, and they should get the better of Wales to sew up top spot in Group B.

Can Wales Get On The Score Sheet?

Wales have only found the back of the net once so far in this tournament, and that came from the penalty spot in their 1-1 draw with the USA.

They have not looked particularly dangerous from open play, mustering just three shots on target in each of their games thus far.

Talismanic forward Gareth Bale does not look fully fit, and nor does midfielder Aaron Ramsey, as both men struggled to cope with the pace of the game against Iran.

Page’s preferred 3-5-2 formation does not suit either of them, leaving Bale isolated in attack and Ramsey in a deeper role than he typically flourishes in.

It left Wales looking a little toothless in attack against Iran, and football betting sites reckon they could face a similar situation when they face England on Tuesday.

England’s attacking quartet struggled against the USA, but Harry Maguire and John Stones looked reasonably composed at the back, and they look capable of keeping a clean sheet against a Wales team that are overly reliant of Bale’s ageing legs.

Back Marcus Rashford To Score

Gareth Southgate

Harry Kane went into the World Cup as the pre-tournament favourite to win a second consecutive Golden Boot, but he is yet to have a shot on target.

The England captain has been playing in a deeper role, seeking to turn provider for pacier teammates such as Raheem Sterling and Bukayo Saka.

It worked during the 6-2 mauling of Iran, but England lacked cutting edge in the final third of the pitch against the USA, and Kane struggled to connect with his teammates.

There is a case to be made for resting him in this game, and Southgate could turn to Marcus Rashford to lead the line instead.

The Man Utd forward may alternatively start on the wing instead of Sterling or Saka, or he could come off the bench in the second half to have a run at some tired Welsh legs.

Either way, he looks well priced at 2/1 with betting apps to get on the score sheet in this match.

Under 2.5 Goals Is Worth A Punt

Under 2.5 goals has paid off in both of Wales’ games so far, and it has also landed in around two-thirds of the matches at this tournament.

As previously mentioned, Wales have not carried much of a goal threat in Qatar, while England looked flat in possession against the USA.

The Three Lions thrashed Iran in their opener, but that is a rarity in tournament football for Southgate’s team.

Only two of their seven matches at last summer’s Euros went over 2.5 goals, as the manager prefers to keep things tight at the back and grind out narrow wins.

As such, backing under 2.5 goals on new betting sites looks appealing in this match.
