17:30 Wolverhampton – Solanna – 1pt @ 5/1

Solanna was in good form when racing a couple of times in January, winning the fourth handicap of his career before performing well in third off today’s 4lbs higher mark next time. The way he travelled into contention for the victory was particularly eye-catching, suggesting he could rate better than 65 at some point, and he didn’t really have everything go right on that sole outing since.

Daniel Muscutt, on board for every one of his wins, returning in the saddle is a big plus and it’s interesting to see a tongue-tie go on. His dam won her first race in one, his half-sister won five races in one (including the first time it was in use at 50/1!) and it’s possible it could eke out a bit more with this fellow as well if there’s a minor breathing issue at play. Either way, I think he’s a contender and 5/1 is fair.

20:00 Wolverhampton – Tintoretto – 1pt @ 10/1

It’s creeping up towards a couple of years since Tintoretto last managed to put his head in-front and recent form wouldn’t scream that a return to the winners’ enclosure is imminent. However, he’s lining up in a 0-75 for the first time in his career and four C&D runs have yielded three neck-seconds, including one to the talented Alrehb off a 6lb higher mark little more than a year ago. 

I didn’t think he was disgraced at Kempton last time given how slow the track was riding and it may be that he prefers the speedier test provided here. The cheekpieces he has worn for both starts since returning from a break are discarded and that could help him to go forward in the closing stages. The booking of Sean Levey is a good one and quite whether he should be the outsider of this field is debatable.
