15:45 Nottingham – Lethal Nymph – 1pt @ 10/3

Lethal Nypmh was one of my selections when he reappeared at Windsor a few weeks ago and that didn’t work out as well as hoped. He was quite flat despite the market suggesting he was ready to go and the impression I got is that he wasn’t where Clive Cox would have hoped. We should get to see a better representation of where he’s at now and this looks like the right sort of race to boot.

He’s still in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot next week but is reliant on horses coming out to be certain of a run, so connections are coming here in the hope of getting a penalty. The track should suit, none of the opposition are that well-handicapped and he could have a tactical advantage. It’s a good opportunity if he has stepped forward from his seasonal return and I think he’ll win.

16:00 Newbury – Able Kane – 1pt @ 12/1

Able Kane seems to take a bit of revving up to get towards his best form and having had a few runs this season, coinciding with a drop in the weights, will hopefully see him score before long. He certainly looked to be coming right at Goodwood a few weeks ago, finishing fourth behind runaway winner Ropey Guest, and it won’t take major improvement on that to be a big player this time around.

The return to a more conventional track won’t bother him and he performed well on both of his course starts last season, finishing third in each. They were off marks of 92 & 93 in higher grades and he’s in off 86 here, so there are zero handicapping excuses. An excessive pace would prove problematic but I think those on the speed will end up being favoured and hopefully it pans out like that!
