14:09 Windsor – Antiphon – 1pt @ 11/4

Antiphon doesn’t take a genius to find and I’m hoping he’ll be able to make it third time lucky for the year. He looked in need of his first start of the season when running on the All-Weather at Wolverhampton (6f), showing bright pace to lead before weakening away, and was significantly better dropped in trip at Yamouth last time, only beaten a couple of lengths into fourth behind Stone Circle.

A 3lbs swing at the weights, along with the jockey changes, can help to turn that form around. He has won a handicap at this track before (over a furlong further; sole start here) and his peak efforts have come with some cut underneath, including that latest run. He should be reaching his optimal fitness levels now and if all pans out to suit, there’s no reason why he won’t take a lot of beating in this field.

We've Ranked The Best Betting Apps

15:54 Windsor – Indian Creak – 2pts @ 3/1

Indian Creak was one of my last time out selections when he made his seasonal return over C&D and the impression he gave off was that he’d be all the better for it. He showed speed, as he often does, and challenged a couple of furlongs from home, but there wasn’t much more left in the tank when others were finishing. He also went plenty quick enough at an early stage, even ignoring the fitness.

Another pound worth of leeway from the handicapper brings him down to 80, the lowest mark he has ever run off in a handicap, and Rose Dawes takes over in the saddle to remove a further 5lbs. In a race where there is not an excess of pace horses, he could get a solo on the front end and feel like he’s running loose. If he’s sharper second time out, it shouldn’t be that easy for the others to pick him up.

16:48 Beverley – Ice Shadow – 1pt @ 20/1

Alan Brown’s horses are in great form this year and Ice Shadow should be capable of winning something off a lowly mark in the coming months. He was strong in the betting in first-time cheekpieces at Southwell last time out but got a bit far back, never was in a proper rhythm and couldn’t land a blow. He did, however, hit the line strong enough to hint that he’s in decent form.

That was only his second run after a break so the likelihood is that he’ll be at his physical best now and the question, alongside whether he’s good enough, is how he’ll cope with this ground. Some of his family won on varying degrees of softened conditions and it wouldn’t be a shock if it suited him. It’s tough to know but he’s a big price and I think it’s big enough to make the obvious risk worthwhile.

17:04 Windsor – Magical Dragon – 1pt @ 16/1

Magical Dragon is not the easiest of rides and likely has his own ideas about the game, but went well fresh when placing at 33/1 on his first start of 2022 and could repeat the trick again. I backed him a couple of times in the autumn on the All-Weather and he ran reasonably, but the nature of those races (slow, slow, sprint) doesn’t bring out the best in him and there’s more chance of a suitable gallop here.

He’s 5lbs below his sole career win, and 9lbs below his two placed efforts, so there are no excuses off what is a career-low rating of 51. Rhys Clutterbuck, on board for last season’s return, is up for just the second time and the early markets would suggest someone fancies their chances! I’d prefer to be on at bigger prices than 16’s but at this level, it’s still worth a small go in hope more so than expectation.
