18:00 Southwell – Rumnotred – 1pt @ 11/2
Rumnotred only made his debut in late December and clearly needed that experience. In three runs since, he has shown enough ability to suggest he’ll be winning races and with a strong pace being predicted, this might be the best opportunity he has had to get that first success onto his slate so far.
There was no pace on for him at Wolverhampton last time when making his handicap debut (finishing speed of over 110%) and the track may be quick enough for him anyway, but he hit the line well despite running against the unfavoured rail.
His previous form with Kingdom Come looks solid considering that one is rated 95 now and I think the mile around here should be suitable (performed well over 7f on his second start). This is competitive but a mark of 69 is workable and if he gets a race run to suit, he can go close. 5/1 or bigger is worth a play.

20:00 Southwell – Wee Fat Mac – 1pt @ 7/2
Wee Fat Mac is not overly exposed having only had ten goes in handicap company and three of them were wins. He’s less exposed to racing at the minimum trip but got his first win over it at Wolverhampton two starts ago, a wide draw forcing a change of tactics that ended up working out as he passed multiple rivals late on.
He was more prominently ridden again over this C&D last time but bumped into Level Up, who is in very good knick and too talented for most 0-65’s when the pace pressure isn't too severe. I thought that was a really good effort to hold second and Level Up would win this race doing handstands in his current form.
A good pace looks likely to materialise, which will enhance his chance (stays 6f well) and although the handicapper is trying to get a grip, there should be another win in him in this grade off 63. As long as his recent busy schedule doesn’t catch up, he must be involved and 7/2 looks fair enough for one with such big claims.
20:30 Southwell – Social City – 1pt @ 13/2
Social City looks to be building up towards an even bigger run since he returned to Tony Carroll following a seven-race stint over hurdles and hopefully he can have a major say in this. He looked to be in need of his Wolverhampton outing in December but was more lively over C&D five weeks ago when fourth to a 72-rated Ehteyat, who finished second next time and is now rated 16lbs higher.
The runner-up won a maiden hurdle next time, whilst the third was less than a couple of lengths behind yesterday’s selection Jubilee Girl on debut for a new yard. Social City is 2lbs lower now and should be reaching peak fitness on his third outing following the break. He has already shortened a few points this morning but I think he’ll be in the mix and doesn’t need major improvement to win.
