13:30 Windsor – Kondratiev Wave – 1pt @ 11/1
Kondratiev Wave was strong in the market dropped to this 0-65 level for the first time at Kempton most recently but was awkward to stride from a high draw and couldn’t get his usual position up near the pace. That was where you wanted to be, with the speed horses dominating throughout, and he simply had no chance of showing what he was capable of as a result. It’s a run to completely ignore.
Returning to turf shouldn’t be a problem and his last run here yielded a neck-second off a 12lb higher mark last April. Granted, that came over a mile and the jury is still out whether he can act in sprints well enough to win, but his sole turf success was over 5f on heavy ground and 6f on soft may work out, especially on a track that suits those on the front end. At 11/1, I think he’s worth a small win bet.
We've Ranked The Best Betting Apps
15:00 Pontefract – Dark Moon Rising – 1pt @ 20/1
Dark Moon Rising was one of my last time out selections when he ran in the Lincoln trial handicap at Wolverhampton and I didn’t think he was disgraced, despite obviously hoping for a lot better than what he produced. I thought they went too quick for him to be comfortable and he raced wide throughout, before ultimately losing his position on the turn for home and weakening away.
The trip on that track, alongside how things panned out mid-race, probably caught him out and it’s possible he’ll enjoy 1m 2f here a lot more, especially on ground with an ease in it and off a 3lb lower mark. His sole suitable handicap attempt on turf was on good-to-soft and he finished third there under the returning Shane Gray, who was also on board for his maiden success. He looks underrated in this to me.
15:35 Pontefract – Swatch – 1pt e/w @ 25/1
Swatch could be worth chancing to run into at least a place. He looked promising on his sole juvenile outing on turf, finishing fourth behind Claymore (Group 3 winner since) and My Prospero (Group 2 winner since). He then ran fine in fifth behind Blue Trail (rated 111 now) and followed up with an easy maiden win at Lingfield over 1m 2f, scooting clear by four-lengths under Jim Crowley.
After a break, his three runs in handicaps left plenty to be desired but the most recent of those was down at 7f and he doesn’t really have the pace to cope with that. The mile here on ground with an ease should be suitable and if he’s in any sort of contention as they’re climbing for the line, he should come home well. That’s assuming he’s fit enough but Crowley is booked again and it looks significant.
